Topic: Shower Scene

In my new film SleepWalker there is a shower scene but i cannot figure out how to add steam on the glass, i have after effects and Premiere pro but i still cannot think of how to do it, if you have any ideas they would really come in handy, thanks mini/smile

Killed by the husband, drowned by the ocean, shot by his own son, he used the poison in his tea an kissed him goodbye, that's my kind of story, It's no fun 'til someone dies.

Re: Shower Scene

You could breathe on the glass before you take the frame, the condensation forming a steamy effect. I've not tried it though it should work in theory. This would avoid any post-production which I always find a bonus.

Re: Shower Scene

Plus as an added bonus the scene would look a lot more realistic if you do it the way CheeseyBricks said it.

Re: Shower Scene

You could also try a photo editing software. Sure it would take some time but pays off. I think Gimp might let you do that. Some kind of smoke thing that would work. I never attempted it but I'm 90% sure theres some smoke option or a brush for it.

i have photoshop, i might try it

Re: Shower Scene

Sqirlz might let you do something with it.

Breathing on the glass would probably be your best bet, but I believe that whenever you take the frame, you'd have to continually breathe on it. Which would really be a pain, considering that when you would look back on it, the fog on the glass would keep moving around and molding.

Re: Shower Scene

Stick wax paper over it. I haven't tried it, but I imagine it would look acceptable. There might also be some other semi-transparent materials you could put on the glass.

Re: Shower Scene

Take a piece of a4 paper, and smear large amounts of cooking oil on it. You'll notice it becomes transparent in the sections that have more oil. Cut out a piece of paper the size of your 'glass', and smear oil on it, making sure to put more oil in the center than around the edges (steam and condensation form better in the center of the glass)

Should be alright, but it depends if you actually need to be able to see through it?

Re: Shower Scene

Ohh, i might try that, it will make the "Glass" seem opaque

Re: Shower Scene

maybe add strips of scotch tape? I used it for a MOC a while back, and it worked pretty well.

Re: Shower Scene

Oh yeah, Scotch tape would work great.

Re: Shower Scene

Wouldn't you get the edges of the tape?

Re: Shower Scene

Maybe press some clay against the shower and remove it. Do this a few times.

Not if you're very careful about how you put it on. If the tape is bigger than the actual piece (I'm assuming it's a window pane), you can just stick the piece of tape on it then cut it with a pair of scissors.

Re: Shower Scene

In terms of postprod attempts, you might want to try a combination of masking, blurring, multilayers and opacity control.

Example: In AE, you have 2 layers of the same video.  Top layer will be your steam on glass layer.  Use the masking tool and draw a mask around the area you want the glass steam to be.  Apply a blur filter and if necessary, adjust the opacity.  Other things you can do is changing the blending mode.
