Topic: Entry level Canon DSLR

I'm planning to get a Canon EOS 1000D DSLR for Brickfilming and photography in general, I'm wondering about two things.

Does the default lens have Manual Focus abilities?

Has it the ability to remote capture in Linux? (more specifically, Xubuntu)

I would like a DSLR to replace my digital camera (which I have to borrow because me sister thinks it's hers) anyway, but if it's no good for Brickfilming I'll invest in a Quickcam 9000.

EDIT: By the way if it's no good for Brickfilming I'll get the QC9000 as well as the 1000D

Re: Entry level Canon DSLR

I use a Canon Rebel XSi DSLR and the lenses that came with it have the capability to manually focus.  I'm guessing the camera your thinking of getting would too.  I'm not sure if it can remote capture in Linux.  The three main regrets I have about using a DSLR for filming are:
1. It's harder to get the camera angles you want because it's so big and you have to sometimes move quite a few Legos out of the way to make room.
2. It's heavy so the camera has to be firmly held down otherwise it will slowly slide off of things (like Lego pieces).
3. Lenses are expensive and the one I'm using right now is an 18-55mm lens.  With this lens you can't zoom in on a minifigures face and still have a clear image.  I would like to buy another lens but it costs a lot of $$$$.  I don't have a lot of $$$$ to spend mini/sad

So besides these complaints, DSLRs are nice cameras.
Hope this helped.

I would like to use the camera for Photography as well, which is why I'm getting one, if it dosen't work out I would happily get a Logitech Quickcam 9000. I actually might get the Quickcam before the DSLR as I will only start getting money from September.
