Topic: New Film Idea: Virtual

This will be my first film so i want it to make an impression on my animation.

The Story is about a boy who visits his grandparents because his mother is going out, he gets trapped in the basement of the house and cannot get out, after getting bored just sitting around he decides to look in some boxes, The First thing he finds is a Military Helmet, and when he puts it on his head he is suddenly transported into a virtual world that is the first world war, after that experience he finds lots of other things such as a sword and a gem etc. that take him to different places in time,

I want to know your feedback on the story, and if i should make it or not and what you would change about it ... mini/smile

Seems to me like a tough challenge for a first film, and pretty long as well. But other than that, I like the idea. I'd just prefer if it was the child's fantasy that makes him believe he is at those places, instead of a virtual something.

I agree with what JD was saying about it seeming like a big project.  I never finished my first film for several reasons but one was trying to make to large of a movie.  It sounds like a good idea though.

Althoug it may seem like a big project for my first film i think i am ready for it, i have done endless animation, cinematography and blue screening tests. and with all of them almost perfect to how i want them i think i can take on this challenge...

Damn, that is practically the same, Erm ... , How about instead of imagining something in the past it is set in the future where his imagination could go wild, would that be more original

Sounds quite fun. You might want to give it the sort of feel of the audience being swept up in it, so they get the impression that it's happening all around them.

Agreed, i also need to decide what he picks up that starts his imagination off, i cannot be the helmet, so what can it be?

how about a water gun or something, because don't forget that it has to be objects that can be found in a basement and not from the future, he imagines its world war III because he is bored of being lock in the basement

Maybe WW3 should be steampunk, after some event that happens through a subnatural nuclear reaction, humans loose memory through radiation and start from what they figure out with to form government, the boy finds a plasma-gun monted model-T or biplane.

I'd say some common household object, but one he doesn't recognize... he makes up a use for it, off he goes on his wild imaginative journey, and then at the end when his grandparents let him out they inform him what it really is. Just to provide an example, he could find a garden hose nozzle, pretend it's an alien ray gun, and go from there.
