Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]
That's great FilmFire. ![]()
I hope do.
Also, I find a great method for getting off the computer to go do stuff is to scream and go run off to your task.
It's a pretty weird technique, but it's really useful. xD

Surprisingly, I've tried this too. It's really motivating, don't you think? I feel like I could march into Hell and take on Lucifer himself when I give myself a screaming boost of overconfidence.
I've added a list of entries received so far to the bottom of the first post.
I was going to ask whether you would do that...
Anyway, I'll upload my entry next week, just got a bit more to do.
I find this theme immensely confusing. If it's Time, or period of time, or tales of events in time, then Tales of Yore could be ANYTHING. As long as you say something at the beginning like: "In 1973, blah blah blah happened" *shows some guys on a couch* "THE END"
I just can't make an entry for this, not only am I too lazy, I just don't understand the criteria at all.

Entrants for this contest are asked to tell a story rooted in history. Entries may be based on actual events, or simply include historical settings, people, and/or events as central elements of the story.
I believe this is what you have to do - tell a story in history, it must be true.
It has a wide criteria. That's why I liked the theme so much. You can do anything with it. It's much better than last year in my eyes - I got so confused with having to make a film 'Avant-Garde' but this time I actually understood the theme and I am currently finishing an entry.

Historical settings. Anything (besides the future) can be a "historical setting" 2011 could be.
That's all people have to do, they're not obligated to have a historical setting and people, and events as "central elements of the story". They can have one of each, or all of them in their film. That's where it gets too wide, people can just say: "well... I'll just use 'historical setting' and do whatever the hell I want for the film".
In the beginning of this topic, Sméagol said that 2011 too recent.
And he also said :
I would like to avoid people doing things like saying that a story fits the theme because, by nature of being a movie, it is a story told in past tense.
Something that would fit in the realm of "historical fiction" would be fine.
Um, yeah, "History" is a pretty clear theme, if you're making a film in which the time period and setting aren't actually relevant to the story then you're not going to fair very well in this contest. It might be possible to semantically argue that any time before now is 'history' in some sense, but who would want to do that? Using some common sense feels like a better route to me.
Nobody calls The Sixth Sense historical fiction simply because it takes place in the 1990s. You have to play on historical events, people, settings, etc. to make a story that would be considered to fall in that genre.
How very sad. What model was it?
Dell Precision M4600. I'm soo looking forward to it. ![]()
I'm still in this. I've been getting quite a lot done recently, I think I'm going to make it, but by the skin of my teeth.
If the history of Lego Themes fits this theme, I'm still in. My film probably doesn't, though.

Our entry was actually supposed to be an Apollo 13 vid. But we changed some stuff, and we ended up making a story, my friend told me when we walked home from school. Im not sure if it is true:( And he told me about a space ship who lost one of the astronauts! So I made that.
Is that ok?
Did more filming today, nearly ten minutes. I've got time after school to work on this too, and there isn't loads left to do. I think I'm going to make it, and it's looking gooood.
Anyone else still entering? What about Jargon? I really hope there is others still making it, I'd love to see Mindgame enter, he kept his entry quiet last year so I hope he's doing that again. Or Filmyguy.
I wonder if Nick Durron is doing anything. He hasn't posted a film in a while.
Could be... ![]()
I really want to see some cool medieval films, so hopefully some veterans will enter.
I too would like to see some entries, I'm hoping that there is a large scale battle of some kind.
I'm hoping there's lots of crime films. All i'm askin'
