I am actually dreading the adventure update. I like the game style as it is and would rather not have to worry about winning or loosing. I just hope 1.8 turns into an item/mob update. I'm interested in the silverfish. It may be the pest, or a fish. But I really don't want NPCs. It ruins the feeling of Minecraft for me to think of villages scattered around.
EDIT: Just read the blog entry about the new mob. Not my kind of mob, but it sounds interesting.

The silverfish is not a fish. It's an insect.

Don't worry about having to use NPC villages and stuff, there'll be three game modes. Survival Mode (the current one), Creative Mode (with flying and unlimited blocks) and Adventure Mode (the new one). You'll be able to choose which one you want to play with.

I knew it was an insect, I was just wondering if there were going to be multiple fish sprites for later mobs and one would be silver. I did not know about game modes. Thank you for that.

1.8 will be the biggest and best update yet. It sounds so amazing. The Endermen creep me out already. Can't wait for the Slender Man skins for it.

I just saw the logo for 1.8 and I must say, I do hope torches in your hand will be able to give off light as you move along, that would help ad a touch of fear to the game. The thought makes me think of the character from the Swedish game amnesia toting the lamp around the building you explore. The great thing about Minecraft is that it's very open and the worlds are completely up to you. The game has so much potential. And I'll close this post with a question. Would it annoy Notch if I sent him an E-mail offering my suggestions?

I almost cried with a mixture of fear/horror/stubbed toe when I saw the Endermen. Those guys are going to be -dare I say it - worse than Creepers. At least with Creepers you can joke about what they look like (*ahem*) but Eldermen are... scary. It has been hinted that they'll only be in Adventure Mode, but I'm always wary. Oh, 1.8 will have new achievements too - like killing a skeleton from 50 meters away, and possible shooting the moon with an arrow.

Whoops, yes, they're Endermen, pardon my typo. Notch keeps tweaking the spawn rate of mobs, so it should be fine, but I'm worried about how long you have to look at them before they become hostile - a second? Less? What if it's a brief accidental glance?

I'm pretty sure that they start staring it you the moment your reticule passes over them. You can have them on screen for as long as you like as long as the reticule doesn't touch them.

My worries have been confirmed, thank you. Now I'm going to be staring at the ground for most of the game. Creepers can blow me up, sure, but Endermen can stab me in the back...

That landscape looks fantastic, I'm getting chills! So there is still no release date for 1.8? I figured since they released 1.7 in September and plan to release 1.9 in October and the final version in November, the 1.8 update would be this month.
