in other news, I just made a server. It's RPG-themed, and we have a couple spell and rank plugins. It's also cool because we have a plugin which let's you upgrade your abilities, like going from a level 1 swordsman to a level 2 swordsman.
I've always been intrigued by RPG-style servers like that. Is your server private? Do you find that it changes your gameplay significantly, such as focusing on combat more instead of building?
Legoshark, I'm sorry about my spelling mistake. I was at school and the bell went so, I'm sorry I'm not perfect.

We should rename it the Minecraft Thread.

There are plugins that add RPG elements that tie into ordinary gameplay. The server I play on uses McMMO, which adds a whole new approach on how to play. It has a bunch of different areas of skills, which you can level up by just doing that activity, and as you level up, you get bonuses like an extra 0.5% chance of a double drop, or special abilities which you can enable before mining something like diamond, which increases the chance of getting a double drop for 3 seconds or so. It extends across pretty much every part of the game. It has a bunch of weird other things packed into it, which you can choose to enable/disable. (It has a few party/dragonwing thing/chat/ features which are disabled on our server, since it feels like they detract from the real fun of playing minecraft.)
But yeah, it makes it a whole lot more fun, and it makes super boring things like digging out a massive whole a little more fun, since you'll get random loot (like a bit of glowstone, bonemeal, apples, other miscellaneous junk) once in a while from digging. Edit: this video shows a few of the features.
Yes, Riley, that's actually one of the plugins we use. And Nathan, I love servers like that because they seem to bring equal balance between fighting and building. We're setting up little factions right now for people to live in. It makes fighting a lot more fun, because you can cast spells and level up your swordsmanship skills. It also just brings around a sense of adventure to the players. Right now my server is private, but in a week or so I will have it fully set up. I will post the ip here when it is done.
Well my secret project hasn't been so secret anymore. Right now I am currently making the back or side walls. In the front ( what your seeing) The wall is 3 blocks thick of cobble (some areas being 1 block) but no, I filled it in, and didn't make it hollow, otherwise, mobs would spawn. I just started this... Two days ago I think (?) This is on Nathan's server, if anyone on the server would like to help, feel free to chat with me for directions
MY castle:

Big images, so I didn't want to put them here. The walls are four blocks thick, sixty-four long (on the inside) and fourteen high, cobblestone on the outside and inside, dirt in the middle. These pictures are a bit dated, I've finished the rear towers and a few more houses. Sadly, it'll all be deleted soon, as the server is shutting down as I've mentioned. Ah well, it's like Lego I suppose.
Well, something interesting happened on Nate's server today. I addressed earlier that the server kicks you out if too many people are on, well, it did that today, so I went back on and I saw this around me at mid-day.
It was scary to be in the middle, but after I got into the water as you see, it was quite entertaining. I ended up going after a (thankfully) neutral spider and getting string, but it was interesting. from what I figure, the game began with data from last night (game night) so monsters from then came in for a little bit of a surprise. oh well, it was worth photographing.
Well I've been a glowstone junky for the past two days. I'm up to 2.75 stacks, a 5x5x5 hollow square beacon for my lighthouse, and a ball of glowstone hanging from my candy cane.
I know. I put your 24 glowstone blocks in the first chest I found in your house.
I just hit 213 blocks of my own. ![]()
Just a heads up, it's been confirmed that if the number of players exceed 4 or 5 my server locks up. This is because of the very basic package I purchased as a test. I will be upgrading tomorrow, but for now a safety measure I have reduced the max amount of allowed players from 10 to 4. Remember this is TEMPORARY and should be fixed soon.

Thanks so much for the info, WTA and Riley! This is why I love Minecraft, the game can be made as basic or as complex as people want. I've recently discovered the Survivalism mod, which introduces hunger, thirst and exhaustion. It really makes things challenging, and emphasizes the surivialism a lot more. I feel the instinct to survive is pretty much conquered after the first few nights once you've built a house an gathered food. But with Survivalism, you're forced to constantly replenish your supplies, and you can't go mining all night because you must rest.
PS - RealBrick, that's a hilarious screenshot

That sounds really interestring. Do you use bukkit for the server?

Which server?
Hey Realbrick, if you really do want to see my castle, head straight exactly in that direction, and sooner or later you'll end up there. I advise you leave the town at morning, because I take a boat there, not walking. But yeah, EXACTLY straight and you'll see it!
EDIT: looking back at it, u have to turn slightly to the right, THEN forward.

Actually, until I get the server upgraded, I'm going to keep the server offline. Too many people have been dealing with unwanted rollbacks, so to save everyone the frustration of losing some of their work, I'll just keep the server offline until we know it can handle more than 4 people.
So should we expect the server to be back up tomorrow?
Is it possible to be banned if you cheat in singleplayer, say if you like did the duplication glitch?
