So, I guess no server? If not, I know this cool little nifty server I'm a helper on, I could give some of you the ip by pm if you want. Though if you're still up to hosting it BertL, I would loath some information.
I'm still trying to figure out how this server software Notch released works. It seems I have to op everyone if I want people to be able to craft and gather blocks and stuff. That's not very handy. There's no manual for the server software, so it's kind of a pain to figure it all out.
Anyone know any texture packs that you can install using the new texture pack installation thing in the browser menu?

I tried to set up a LAN MCZall server, but my laptop almost exploded with only two people playing, and whenever I tried doing anything else, it'd crash. I have no idea why it was performing so badly, I'm able to run minecraft at 120fps at full settings seemlessly.

But TBH no texture pack I've found is better than the default. However you could make your own like it did.
You will need a programme like 7-Zip to do this. Once your in 7-Zip you can find all the original textures here If your on PC
C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar\
So you can copy them to a new folder and edit them in photoshop.
And all your save files are here.
C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves\
So you can back them up if you want.

All you have to do is convert the texture pack to a .zip file and then put it in:
Appdata/.minecraft/texturepacks
If you're on Vista, you have to go to Run and then type in %appdata% to get to the Appdata folder.
From there, you can just choose it from the main menu.

What I was talking about was that there is some installer/swapping-textures thing in the menu now

Minecraft is awesome. It is also swedish, which makes it even more awesome.

I know some, ones down currently though.
On this multiplayer server I go on, I was making an underground 50x50 mob trap and had to leave, and said not to turn out the lights ( i was in the trap) and so when i log back on, guess what? They turned out the lights, so now there's no automatic killer, I died, and the redstone lighting only lights the edges. WTH
I think I've got a server set up, I'm not entirely sure yet. If it is working, I'll gear it up properly and set it up on another PC.

I'll try it tommorow, I would like to know the details I.e mobs object spawn e.t.c. I'm currently on a no mob handout private server. We have some cool builds and a lovely community. I shall edit this post with pics of my church on it.
I already know it doesn't work. I spent like 2 hours tinkering with it, I just can't seem to get the ports configuration to work. It works fine over a local network. If we used Hamachi it would work, but it wouldn't be ideal.
