Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Actually, I think he took a couple of long breaks from the project, making it not truly 5 years. But I might be incorrect.

I do actually believe he took a long break off the project, so I guess you are right. Still, it has been quite a while since the whole thing started.

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Yes there have been several 1-2 month pauses as well as on or two 6+ month pauses, so the quality of the film might seem slightly uneven, however it was mostly done in the same order the movie will take place so I get better as the film goes on, so hopefully that does not detract from the end quality.

@Edmeier: I feel like the animation might be one of the weaker elements of the film, I constantly see far better animation from other members at the site, the strength of this film really does lie in the lighting and set design, I feel like the effect will hold up restively well too. The animation is not bad, but it's not impressing me, I can only be so good at so many things, I am hoping to get the first sampling of music within the week so I'll be able to gauge how the film will sound, I feel like if I can overcome the lackluster sound of my past projects I can get this to feel like 'a real film'.

I'm trying to finish up my green screening work today and I decided to try get a better keying result, I went from using a 55mm lens to a 105mm lens which limited me to f/22 rather then the f/32, I think the key is the tiniest bit improved and I am VERY happy with how it turned out, the first half of the footage is not bad enough to reshoot, at this point I feel like I am moving from an above average key to an excellent key, here is a non-spoilerly abstract of what I am shooting:

(This is a crop from the films actual resolution, if you have a 1920x1080 monitor you will see that level of detail (so long as YouTube does not destroy it, but I will put up the highest possible quality on Vimeo as well)

I have learned how to make a grid and copy patterns in Photoshop, nothing good will come of this. (In other news I have been listening to Tangerine Dream almost non-stop, and I have also heard the first samples of the sound track which is getting me excited)

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Glad to see this project is still alive and kicking, really can't wait to see all these amazing sets in motion.

Tangerine Dream.  I've really been on a kick with them too!  I've been listening to OPTICAL RACE (1988) a lot and some of their weird early Pink Label stuff.  What have you been listening to?

By the by, I love the White House image.

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

I've just been on a crazy YouTube tangent, it started when I read a Netflix review for 'The Keep' I never even watched the movie but I checked out the soundtrack, along with some other soundtracks they did like Thief and Sorcerer, also quite a bit of there live stuff, before this month I had never even heard of them, but it's definitely the sort of feel I'm hoping my films sound track will have.

I got 18 seconds animated yesterday, I messed up one 8 second shot and had to re-shoot it which was annoying. But hey, 18 seconds is a solid days work. I'm sort of plotting out the final scene with little test images that I am putting into the time line to work things out, and should let me know what else I need for the remaining shots. There is a LOT of animation on this final set, here is what one of the image mock ups looks like:

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Been working on the climax, I've already done a few shots today, here is a little test animation I just did, don't mind the flicker, I have no idea why it was that bad but I almost never see flicker that bad even if I'm shooting a test shot and don't care

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

So as I've been working on the climax and editing together the footage I have I noticed that I really needed a scene that I never wrote into the script, which is anoying, I had just planned to hope for the best and leave it out, but I had a eureka moment while lying in bed at 3 trying to fall asleap, I think I found a way to add the information and it should only take a day of filming, maybe one more day of set building, but it requires a map.

I don't know about you but I don't like any maps on the entire internet, every time I need a map for a movie I have to find something semi-close and then change it up in Photoshop or Illustrator so it suites my needs, so this is the image I started with, and what I ended up with:

Once I am done with the current set, I'll turn the final mock up into a mosaic and shoot it.

Only 4 seconds today mini/sad that's 32 for the week, but I had to figure out the effects for this shot to know how the lighting would work for the rest of the shots in the set.

While animating this shot I was pretty dependent on Dragonframes multipul exposure option, the shot starts without the green light and when it gets turned on I would do one frame with and one without  the light so I could ease the fully lit green cast into the shot.

I even pulled out my super old copy of VisionLab Studios for some of the effects stuff in this.

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Wow those light particles look great. Those ovals are for masking the different exposures right?

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

The light particles are glitter from the cloud tank, the masks on the side are to keep the cloud tank from overlapping the set too much. If you look closely you can see the brick footage ever so faintly

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Here is a photo I forgot I took that I just found on my cell phone, this is my high tech focus pull rig, basically I just try to animate the flag poll I taped to the focus to the black aperture dot by the frame I have specified in my x-sheet. I'll find the focus I will pull to first, then tape the LEGO brick on and go to the focus I will start on. When I discovered this I filed it under 'So easy why didn't I do this years ago'

I don't think I can be Reels About Nothing now that I am not working with Brian Bridges or any of the Reels About Nothing crew, I think it's time to turn a new leaf and release all films under Robots With Knives Productions. This is a first draft of the logo, let me know what you think, and/or how I could make it a little better.

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

I like the background image, but the font feels amateur for some reason. I get the 8-bit look, but something about it feels slapped on. I also think it might be cool (and easier to read) if the text was above the robot instead of over that grid. The robot would be moved down, and the grid would be slightly less prominent, with the studio name and the robot silhouette being more prominent.

Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)

Color is a real possibility, The text is very easy to read if the image is color. someone elsewhare stated that the robot looked like it was 'flying the bird' which was not my intent, so here is the robot holding the knife more psycho style. I might look at some other fonts, finding the right font can be hard.

I think the pink grid with a white robot would look the best. The rainbow is just too distracting in my opinion.
