Re: The Animation Challenge

I liked the first climbing, I wish he had gotten farther up the mountain, though. I couldn't understand what the guy said either. I think the sticky tac was way too visible in the video, a little less tac may have worked better. However, the climbing was good overall. mini/smile

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thanks for the new entry.

The deadline] is today, and the winner is Cooked Cat.

It was intense, fast paced and well shot. Also like the cinematography. Better luck next time Kizar mini/wink

One thing to mention, I would have liked to see an extended version of the first animation.

This thread seems pretty dead.. but Cooked Cat you have taken Reign.

Sincerely,
Divine.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Already done, Kizar. For fresh ideas for a new animation challenge, you can check the first page of the thread to make sure you aren't redoing any old topics.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Mickey, the only problem is it hasn't been updated since 2011 :l

So that'll be tough..

Re: The Animation Challenge

I dont think its a issue redoing old topics, I mean, they are OLD! throw some ideas around, and we'll see.

its actually part of a longer video I am working, yet, in accord with the rules, I could use it....

Re: The Animation Challenge

I think it's best not to reuse old ideas. There are still plenty of challenge ideas that were thrown around that haven't been done.

Re: The Animation Challenge

yeah, bet there is, but we should be open to do old ones aswell as new.

Im thinking something with regard to the enviroment around a minifig reacting and that to his movements....

Re: The Animation Challenge

Ohh my apologizes then Kizar mini/smile

Also Jampot I like the idea of what Cooked Cat was thinking like being able to redo old challenges again could be new contestants with new content that could be nice to see. Of course making like a simple ruling not to bring it out repetitiously besides that it could be nice to do some old ones people missed and wanted to compete in.

Cooked Cat have you chosen the next Challenge? I may be interested depending what it is.

Divine.

Kizar, doesn't look like Cooked Cat is picking a new challenge that would make you the next challenger if your up for it go ahead and make a new challenge!

Re: The Animation Challenge

I am. just thinking. I have it now, SLIDING ON SMOOTH SURFACES!!!!:D

Re: The Animation Challenge

We already had a "Walking on a smooth surface" challenge, so I don't know if we want to do that or not. Good suggestion, though.

I'm really hoping to get back into entering these challenges, right now I'm trying to find the CD with EOS Utility on it so I can try out filming with a T2i.

Re: The Animation Challenge

ok, well, what would you like?

Re: The Animation Challenge

Cooked Cat, I was quite happy with that.. Mighty Wanderer I think we should not be so prejudice just because a challenge has been done already doesn't mean it shouldn't have a chance to sign its light with new animators taking the challenge the whole point is to keep the thread alive and not kill it from something simply as it's already been done.

A lot of members including myself are pretty new to this thread, and would have liked to take upon many of the old challenges so why not bring some back? hell the list hasn't even been updated since 2011! So I already think that's a point in its own that challenges should be done again at some point!

I am happy with the challenge if it is the challenge I will try an make an entry!

Sincerely,
Divine.

Re: The Animation Challenge

I'd like to just point out that back in March or April I suggested exactly the same thing (reusing old challenges, even combining two or three into 'mega-challenges' to be more difficult) but was shot down in flames. I think we should take that as a sign that most members don't want to reuse old challenges. It may seem odd, but the idea of always coming up with new challenges is part of the fun; it promotes creativity. There's nothing to stop you redoing old challenges yourself out of the Animation Challenge, though.

It's not that hard to come up with new ones. People were complaining about it once before so I came up with a list of stuff that hasn't been done:

  • Walking through a swamp

  • Time lapse flower growth

  • Moving shadows

  • Shapeshifting into an animal

  • Backpack/jetpack flight

  • Ridiculously oversized weapon

  • Helicopter head

  • Midas touch

  • Leprechaun magic

  • Giant in a minifig’s world

  • Scott Pilgrim-style guitar battle

  • Time loop

  • Phoenix rebirth

  • Pneumatic drill

  • Last Crusade-style crumble to dust

  • Mech walk

  • Unloading a lorry

  • Demon transformation

Coming up with new ideas is part of the fun of the Animation Challenge, and there are always things that haven't been done - you just need to take a minute to figure out what they are. See if you can add to this list.

EDIT: and Divine, the list has some silent edits, as it is up-to-date up to my last winning entry, which was May this year. So it is almost 100% up-to-date (though admittedly nobody's got around to doing the last few months).

Re: The Animation Challenge

ooh, I like this one: Last Crusade-style crumble to dust
well, lets do jampots thingy, lets combine that and, lets say, make it so that it also has to effect the scene, not justs the minifigure,
so, say its a death ray that get'm, it would also effect surroundings....

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hi Jampot, thanks for the suggestions, I would like to point out tho, as far as I know Walking through a swamp has been done, I saw the animation challenge video to it. For the rest interesting, but rather hard  for us more novice brick filmers don't you reckon?? mini/tongue mini/lol

These all have to do with transformation and having a giant in minfig world, I must say this one I am keen to see one day! mini/lol

However I do like the idea, of over-sized weapon, the time loop, backpack/jetpack flight!

Also few questions, whats a lorry? Helicopter head? whats a Midas torch?

Also why are they silent edits? And how are we the general public able to see whats done and whats not done? It's much more helpful if we can see what's done.

It'd be so helpful for someone to get onto this truthfully speaking I and many others I'm sure would love to see an updated list of done challenges.

But thanks none the less!

Sincerely,
Divine.
