How about Invisibility? As in an invisible minifig or object.

How about making a muzzle flash only from Lego bricks, no effects, just bricks. I say It would be quite challenging.
Yes, invisibility Or a Chameleon effect.
Well invisibility would be more like a masking challenge, wouldn't it? And chameleon effect, wouldn't that be just vfx? I'd suggest "construction zone," stuff like cranes and whatnot.

Yes, but the real challange is animating a floating object so it looks like a minifig is holding it (for example).

Not really... You put a minifigure in the frame, then mask it out. Use the minifig as the support for the object.
I think the theme of Camouflage could be a lot of fun. So unless there is huge objection That shall be the next theme.

What do you mean by calmoflague? Masking/editing effects or minifigures calmoflaging from other minifigs like the army? 
or both?
I might do a VFX and an animated version.
Take the theme and run with it. If you want to do VFX that would be awesome. Masking, hiding army style, I'm looking for the most creative way to do camouflage. If everyone does something different we can all see the out comes and determine what works and what doesn't.
I'm excited to see what you guys come up with.
