Didn't get it yet, but I ordered this rarity from Friends:

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Managed to pick up the Lego City Demolition Starter Set (mainly as a parts pack) and also the new Lego Star Wars Senate Commando Troopers Battlepack. Both pretty cool sets mini/smile

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Found Benny's Spaceship for £42 (RRP in the UK is £80). Rather pleased with basically half-price for what is apparently one of the best sets of 2014, and the largest set I own.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Wow, where did you manage to pick up that set for so low a price?

Argos. I went to a store and used the stock checker screens to look up a few items (they have the Milano at £37 and the Cantina even less). The items are on clearance- hence the discounts- so you have to enter the product code to find them. Luckily someone on Brickset Forums listed the good ones. There was no stock at the store I was at, but another one nearby had one- benefit of living in a city with multiple Argoses (Argi?). I reserved it and picked it up from there the next day.

So yeah, Argos seems a good place to look for sets when they have clearance sales. I'd love find a Milano for £37, but those might all be gone now.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Those golden palm leaves mini/eek  I'm very jelly. I have to say, though i've only ever bought the 'pet' sets, Friends is a pretty decent line. It's kind of annoying that it perpetuates the stereotype that all girls like pink (most girls in my family and circle of friends are sick of the colour) but the design of most of the sets - not to mention some of the new colours of pieces, like those gold palm leaves - actually make for some solid sets. Got any specific plans for a brickfilm with this/its pieces, or was it just for fun? Either way, from the looks of it this is a decent buy.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

This set was just for fun.  I love Lego Friends, and actually segregate them from my other Lego stuff.  MY wife loves Friends, too,a nd we build them together as a bonding activity.  As for rare colors that are found abundantly in Friends, earlier today I posted on Tumblr  much of my collection of those colors for use in Brickfilming and general MOC creation.  Here's one of the pix, this one with the names of all the colors by their side:

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

The other day, I bought 2 Stephanie's Bakery Stand sets (I already had one, but it's for EASTER2015, and I wanted my own mini/tongue ). The pieces are nice, but I mainly bought it because I'd like to someday make a short film with the LEGO Friends minidolls.

I even modified one (I erased the textures on it to allow me to easily make customs). Notice the red marker for the lips.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

It's about time someone is doing a mini-doll figure brickfilm!  There are some cool pcs in that set, but some real gems are found in the animal sets without mini-doll figures, and they retail for only $4.99, but the "local" Toys R Us has them for $3.99, every series they release!

I really love what you've done with the mini-doll figure, Rio!

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

So, guys, I just got what seems to be just about every single set from Harry Potter 1 and Harry Potter 2.

http://images.brickset.com/sets/images/4730-1.jpg?200205100611

My friend's mom was at a yard sale, spotted them for a really low price, and got them all for me, which was terribly nice of her.

They're all horrifically dusty, however, they haven't been used very much.  And are generally in a much nicer condition that my own sets from that time-period.  As I used my sets quite a lot and had them shuffled through big huge unsorted bins which scratched them up and was murder for the capes.

Most of the capes are in surprisingly fantastic condition, and just need to be cleaned up.

There are a few missing elements, such as the Hogwarts Express (though the station and the figures are still there), Fluffy, and perhaps a few others.  But generally most of the important stuff is still good.

The sets themselves are in chunks and i won't try to re-build them.  But there are a great deal of useful pieces here, such as that brain in a jar which Mr. Vertigo had also recently acquired.

For good measure, there was also a single Johnny Thunder set and two sets from Harry Potter 3.
Whoever this person was, they were remarkably consistent with their interest in Harry Potter at that time.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Wow, lucky!  Classic HP is one of the themes I missed out on, so I've been interested in trying to acquire some of those sets myself.  Too bad a lot of them are horrifically expensive now...

Sadly I myself have yet to get a lucky find at a yard sale. mini/sad  Will you be posting actual pictures of what you've gotten at some point?

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Yeah, I'm really happy that this happened.  I felt a bit sad that I had mostly missed out on Harry Potter, although I did get Dumbledore's Office back then.  I still use the four transparent purple 2x1 bricks from that quite often and now I have double that number.

Perhaps of a few things.  Right now it's a pretty dusty mess, but I've sorted out a few very special pieces which were more interesting and started cleaning them.  I've already cleaned all of the chrome pieces, as I didn't want them to get scratched from sifting through the boxes.  There were several gold coins, a sword, a gold stud, a load of gold keys, and the very rare crown piece from the chess figure.  All of which seem to be in surprisingly excellent condition underneath the dust.

I also cleaned a lot of the pink pieces.  There were three sets from the 2001 line which all seemed to have a sort of LEGO Friends type style to them with lots of pink and bright colours.  And I'm especially glad that they where here, as I need more pieces like that.

Also, I was surprised to find that the light grey from those sets is actually new grey, even though it's from 2001.  I'm guessing that LEGO introduced new grey into the "girly" sets before putting using it to phase out old grey entirely in 2004.  Previously I was not cognizant of this bit of LEGO history

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Congrats man! Speaking of the old grey/light grey, I was recently taking a look at my 2002 Obi-Wan Jedi Starfighter and noticed it had the new light grey on it as well, but also had the old dark grey. Perhaps the new light grey was introduced into set sooner than the new dark grey.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

I got a mess of Harry Potter sets loose from someone, which I took apart because I don't know the series.  It looks like I got a lot of parts from the first set you showed.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Oh wow, I am super jealous of all of this. The HP 1 and 2 sets were the first Lego themes I ever really tried collecting, and though I got most of the big sets (Hogwarts, the Chamber of Secrets and Dumbledore's Office) I'm still missing the vast majority of the smaller sets (though oddly I ended up with two Quidditch pitches). That's to say nothing of sets from 3 to 7. I really must try and collect some more of them.

I agree that the pieces are phenomenally useful. There are all those great wall pieces but also little details like the books, spell-pieces, even a Dumbledore Chocolate Frog card if I remember correctly. It all really fits your style of brickfilming too, and I can't wait to see much of it in action.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

I recently got the new Tie Advanced Prototype from Star Wars Rebels.
Glad I got it since my local Lego store sells out them as fast as they come in. The set is really nice and the figures are very detailed as well. I hope they make more new tie fighters like this one in the future. mini/smile

I think that my favourite thing about the old Harry Potter series is that the designers took so much artistic license and didn't go for absolute movie accuracy.

Take Snape for example.
In the movies he wears black, and his skin is a not unusual pale shade, However, here in the LEGO version, he's got some purple in his outfit, and he's glow-in-the-dark.

Why is he glow-in-the-dark?  Why?  How does that even make any sense?  Sure, Snape is creepy and antagonistic, but he's not bioluminescent.  And yet I'm really glad that he is like this, as I think it really makes it all the much better.  And all throughout the series for years one and two we've got crazy cool stuff like this.

In fact, LEGO was where I first really saw Harry Potter.  I can still remember getting the September-October edition of LEGO magazine in 2001 and wondering what the story was and who the characters were supposed to be.

Got this about a month ago. I really love this set!!!!! I finial have a Hulk fig, Scarlet Which (while not entirely screen accurate) is still awesome, Ultron Prime is cool, and we always need more Iron Man! If you can find this set, you should buy it! 5 out of 5 stars from me. mini/bigsmile
