Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Went to the LEGO Store just recently and bought the new Witch-King Battle and Riverside Chase sets.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c343/Mr_Sm1l3y/IMG_5199_zpsb2e2a5d2.jpg

They're both really great sets, the Witch-King Battle in particular.  The amount of dark grey "brick bricks" (six in total!) alone make it worth buying.  And there's a dark red tree leaf as well (though it would have been nice if the designers had thrown in another one, but I'm not complaining).  The Riverside Chase also has some really neat bricks, such as the wheels, and trans-light blue elements (especially round 1x1 tiles and 2x1 plates).

The minifigs are really great.  Love the agent suit, it will definitely come in handy.  Galadriel is also really nicely designed, and I'm happy to have another flesh-coloured female head.  I'm a bit unhappy that there's a huge spot of flesh printing on the torso, though, as I won't be able to use it with a yellow minifig.  The highlight, though, is the Witch-King.  I love the face design.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c343/Mr_Sm1l3y/IMG_5209_zps6597f10d.jpg

I find the back-printing of the head a bit odd, though, as it has all these weird lines on it and might limit MOCing possibilities.  The Witch-King's crown is a surprisingly useful part; it fits a 1x1 round plate/brick perfectly, opening up a lot of design possibilities.  I can easily see making a steampunk lamp design with it, or some kind of brazier or stand.  I was  also surprised to find Galadriel's cape has shiny printing on one side.  Not sure if I would ever find a use for it, but it's a nice bonus.

So yeah, I'm really happy with both of these sets.  I'm actually contemplating picking up a few more Witch-King Battles to get some more of these parts.

I also managed to acquire some minifigs off of eBay, which I might post when they arrive (if people are actually interested in this sort of thing...)

Cool! I think the lines on the back of the Which-King's head are suppose to be what's left of his hair (they did the same with Gollum and the orcs). mini/smile

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Man, I want one of those UltraAgents sets. I'm going to have to buy myself one for Christmas. Those looks awesome. I wanted one of the original LEGO Agents, but never got one, and these are even cooler.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Those are both sets I keep meaning to buy, though I'm saving money for when the LEGO Justice League sets come out next year. What's the face on the slimy Ultra Agents villain like?

Incidentally, the sparkly capes totally a thing now. Young Vitruvius has one, as does the CMF s12 Wizard. I actually quite like them, though I haven't yet tested how they look on-camera.

EDIT: Not a set, but I just bought another Sakaaran, and a Nova Corps officer. Got them both for £5.90, which is pretty good when buying figs on ebay.

My grandma says she's going to start giving me an 'allowance' again, so I'm hoping some of that will be able to go towards more Lego, though I'm starting to get much more careful about what I do and don't buy anyway.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Sorry for responding so late.  Here's a close up of the Ultra Agent's face:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c343/Mr_Sm1l3y/IMG_5240_zps138df71f.jpg

The yellow printing is a bit paler than a normal minifig's head, but that's to be expected given that it's printed on a trans-bright green head.  Not sure if it's all too visible, but there are small patches of yellow printing on the left side (next to the "damaged" side of his face) as well.  Otherwise it's got a nice design, although it's probably a tad over-the-top for me personally, and I can't think of any specific use I'd have for it.  (I'd gladly trade for it if you happen to have a spare Shrieking Shack or Graveyard Duel set lying around somewhere, that'll solve all my problems...)

I've started saving up tips from the place I work at as a little spending money, and have accumulated quite a bit over time (as well as money generally since I haven't actually bought anything really).  I'm mainly intending to buy more Lego with it (I've had my eye on quite a few sets for some time now), though I might just end up buying other stuff with it, I don't know.  Also, I'm kinda tempted to start using BrickLink, though from what I hear it's basically a massive black hole from which your money will never return...

Also, on a side note, I've noticed that all of the mods' custom titles have all been changed back to "moderator".  Just curious, is there any particular reason for this happening?

Just to save confusion until the site redesign, whenever that happens. It was unclear for some members as to who the mods and admins are.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Today, I bought the LEGO Hobbit 79003 An Unexpected Gathering for 35 dollars. It's normally 70 dollars (80 at the Toys R Us website), so I got it for about half off. The box was crushed, and it was marked down 3 times according to the stickers on the box, but all the bricks are OK, so I'm very satisfied. I got some awesome new parts too.

My money has recently been pulled into that black hole. I have made 3 orders in the past 2 weeks. Mostly minifig parts for a brickfilm series I'm going to do next year (It's going to be epic). Once you get on Bricklink, you will never return... D:

But, if you do go to Bricklink, I recommend this program to help you out in shopping:

http://www.buildingoutloud.com/brickficiency.php

You import Bricklink wish lists, LDD files, or add parts manually, and it calculates for you a list of stores you can shop at to use the least amount of stores (which in turn saves on shipping costs) to buy your bricks. I used it and it works well.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

My Nova Officer and Sakaaran arrived today! Huzzah! Took a while, but now they're here.

Of all the LEGO 'army building' I could do - across Kingdoms/Castle, Galaxy Squad, LotR and Star Wars - I'm sorely tempted to build a Nova Corps, even though only one of them has appeared, and in only one set. Is that stupid, or just ambitious?

Just bought the hobbit Dol Goldor ambush (the one with Beorn) on amazon yesterday during a lightning deal for 12.99. mini/smile
I'll take some pictures when it arrives.

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

I just got a package in the mail from LEGO (for being a LEGO ReBrick Curator for half a year) that contained a signed Exo-Suit and two polybags.

(I also bought a couple LEGO minifigure parts from Bricklink, but they are not picture worthy. mini/tongue )

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Wow!

Didn't even know being a ReBrick curator was something you could do.  How do you become one?  (And how do you get free LEGO like that?)

That's really cool, rioforce.

Don't you have to be 18 to do much besides sharing your own creations on ReBrick? Or was it 16?

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

I want in on that! mini/eek

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

@FlyingMinifig I don't actually know how I became one. I was just active on the site, and they emailed me and asked me if I wanted to be a curator (a curator is where I bookmark 40 creations every month for 6 months), and I accepted. I bookmarked about 2 a day, and before I knew it, I had free LEGO. mini/tongue

@Mighty Wanderer: No, you just have to be 13 to log in to the site, and from there you can do whatever you want. Bookmark, like, comment, etc. Some of last year's curators were 14 and 15 years old.

I don't know how anybody can actually become a curator, but I think their email is [email protected], if you want to ask them. mini/wink I think you just have to prove that you can be active on their site, and that you're not a spammer. mini/tongue

Re: What was the last LEGO set you got?

Christmas + Target Clearance Haul

For Christmas I received The Lego Movie Trash Chomper, Hobbit Elf Army, and Hobbit Laketown Chase.
Today's Target was the republic and sith troopers on clearance and the Earth Protector from Bionicle.

Mirkwood has the best figs, but its a lame build so i'll probably part it out. My army of LotR elves is now 8 instead of 3. mini/bigsmile
