The BRAWL 2020 RESULTS will be announced next Saturday, July 11th at 5PM EST on the Bricks in Motion Discord server. I'll be announcing the results live in the voice chat and in the #brickfilming-lego channel. Additionally, I'll be live-streaming the results on the Bricks in Motion YouTube channel, so let's keep it clean, folks. If you cause interruptions or annoyance, the mods reserve the right to mute or kick you without warning.
This year we'll be announcing the Top 15 instead of just the top 10 like in previous years. This is for two reasons: 1.) because of the huge amount of entries and 2.) because in looking over the entries, we the judges found that we could confidently come to a consensus for a top 15, instead of just 10. And I want to be VERY clear about this: DO NOT expect future BRAWLs or THACs to do this, or be dissapointed when future contests only do top 10. Even if future contests get more than this BRAWL's 66 entries, don't expect it. The reason we do only the top 10 is because generally, each of the top 10 have distinguishable merits that the judges can easily rank with an agreeable consensus. To quote Sméagol in 2015 (which I strongly disagreed with at the time, but came to learn was true through judging):
The problem is that after about 10th place, the quality of entries starts to blur into a range in which it is hard to distinguish one from another.
I thought I'd rank my top ten favorite BRAWL 2020 entries.
10. Summer Leaves by Rioforce.
Short and sweet. Possibly one of the most beautiful brickfilms of the year.
9. Johnny Thunder and the Packet of Crisps by Formal Lens.
A clever and funny adventure brickfilm. What's not to love?
8. The Planet Preserver by Darren Wolin.
A short and sweet entry with one of my favorite concepts of the contest.
7. PLASTiC by Joshua Nelson.
One of the most unique and stylistic entries.
6. Joey McJohnathan Has an Epiphany by Spudson.
A thought-provoking and beautiful film.
5. SCRAP by 2x4 Productions.
A very ambitious BRAWL film. I loved the robot and world design.
4. conveyance by Chaizin.
A fascinating and atmospheric brickfilm.
3. Loop TV by LOTW Studios.
Another one of my favorite concepts from BRAWL this year.
2. Degradation by Bricks and Pieces Animation.
One of my all-time favorite BRAWL entries. I've gone back and forth putting this in first and second place.
1. Night Guard by twickabrick.
Another one of my all-time favorite BRAWL entries. Absolutely excellent work!
Anyway, that's my list. I'm super excited for the official ranking in a couple of days.
