Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary
If only I had money. Can I pay you in textbooks?
Sure, that'll be $3.50 for your lightly-used tome on Economics that you originally bought for $90.
We are a friendly filmmaking community devoted to the art of stop-motion animation using LEGO® and similar construction toys. Here, you can share your work, join our community of other brickfilmers, and participate in periodic animation contests!
A place to discuss, share, and create stop motion films.

No, but we do accept payments in gum.
I wonder if film scholars have started studying brickfilm as an artform and written papers about it. Or maybe post-grad or doctorate students doing their thesis based on this. Would be fun to look at any demographical/statistical data they might have (hopefully acquired via sound quantitative methods.)
It's not a big deal if there isn't any, it's just that, imagine 50 years from now when film scholars start to research brickfilming say from 2000 - 2013. They might have to refer to this period as the "Dark Ages of Brickfilming" ???
I have always been fascinated by The Dark Ages, only because nobody really knows what people are thinking and how are they are living. In many ways, brickfilming is at that stage isn't it? Norms haven't been defined, still a lot of techniques yet to be explored and data is hard to find.
We are living in the Dark Ages of Brickfilming people! (or maybe pseudo-Dark Ages would be more accurate.)
I've always wanted to say that.
That is real sweet, if only I didn't have my own projects I need to finance. And food, I also need to buy food.

The years 2000-2013 essentially cover the entire history of brickfilming! Yes, I know there were films made in the 90s, 80s and even 70s, but nearly all brickfilms have been made since 2000 or later. So I doubt such an archaic (and inaccurate) phrase could be used to describe this time period.
Besides, brickfilming is just a subset of stop-motion animation. As I've said before, brickfilming is a niche within a niche within a niche. And besides being used for some types of promotion like music videos, plus influencing the style of The LEGO Movie, I doubt brickfilming has had much of an impact on cinema.
Plus, I'm not sure this is the thread to be discussing this in.
When does the Kickstarter end?
When does the Kickstarter end?
Most Kickstarter projects for films last 30 days.
When dose the Kickstarter start? Or did it already start and I just don't know were to find it?
Thanks
OsomStudios
It starts on the 6th of September, this Saturday.
We plan to launch the Kickstarter on September 6th (2 days!).
Ok sweet thanks. Looking forward to it.

Now that is something I can do......
I suppose I'm rather late in saying this (been on holiday, laptop died) but this looks amazing, I'm really glad to see a documentary happening. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute anything as I intend to save up my money to buy a DSLR (so I can make better brickfilms, ironically). But the "animator" tier certainly sounds intriguing, I might be able to contribute to that. I'll have to see. (Although I'm not sure I've made enough brickfilms on a regular basis to merit a highlight on my work ).

The actual posting of the blog entries will begin in January (after we're not so occupied with getting the documentary filmed), so you would have time after pledging to create something worthy of the front page!
An updated preview of the pitch video:
Looks sweet. Cant wait.
Hi. Now that I am considering making a contribution, I have new questions. There was information on donating at the $100 level, as "the cameo". Is the Lego avatar in the movie being interviewed and discussing brickfilming? What happens to a character in the cameo?
I also was looking for the FAQ for restrictions, but don't know where to find it. I did a search of the page and only saw the one instance of FAQ. So sorry that I'm really dumb on the FAQ; I bet I'm missing something obvious. I just wanted the most information before I make a decision, as the higher tier will require me to budget and take some time. THANKS EVERYONE!
No you're not mistaken, I copy/pasted that from the main post we're still writing which has an FAQ and didn't catch that it referenced the FAQ, my bad.
The "cameo" is like an easter egg. Basically, we'll make a minifigure that either looks like you or looks how you want it to look, and hide it in the film somewhere. It'll be visible but not prominently featured. After the film is done we'll ship the minifigure to you with a little signed certificate for display purposes.
The limitations applicable are that we're not going to include minifigs that are somehow offensive sexually or whatever, or use very expensive, rare parts that we'll have a hard time obtaining.
