Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Goldenbrick, The coffee shop looks a little too bland. Try adding more colors than just gray. I suggest using brown tables. I also think that you should use a yellow lamp instead of a natural lamp. The light will give it more of a coffee shop feel. Otherwise it is pretty good.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

I agree with Frogtrap. I would also make more tables or spread the original ones out.

This is a picture of a security guard in security booth for my next film.

Its suppost to be night, and the light on him is from a computer screen...
So what are the pros and cons of the lighting?

One more question: as you can probably see, there are "lines" in the black areas of the picture
i have a QC9K, how would one get rid of said lines?

Special thanks to Hazzat, who gave me suggestions on the computer screen glare.

(sorry if the picture is too big, you can also view it here)

If I'm on the forums, I'm probably waiting for Blender to finish rendering.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

@goldenbrick: I agree with Frogtrap, but I've also got another suggestion. Make a fake wall menu (scaled to fit the shop) and put it up somewhere, maybe on the wall behind the counter.

@Wingman_mn: I don't really get a "night" feeling from that shot because it's inside. Dimming the background lights could give it a more late-at-night kinda vibe. And it also seems to me like a computer that bright would hurt the guard's eyes. Any way you can dim that, too?

People won't be people when they hear this sound.

How do I make a fake wall menu?

1) Draw it on the computer
2) Print it out
3) Cut it out
4) Tape it to the wall

I did something like that for the menu outside the Beached Whale.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

@Wingman_mn: Only found fault with two things... the glare from the computer cuts off rather abruptly on the bottom. Would blurring the edge of the glare look any better? And secondly, is there any way to lean the minifig back further? My first reaction when I saw the shot was of a guard being held up by criminals, not someone resting. Oh, and I don't see any black lines.

@goldenbrick: Definitely a wall menu behind the counter, and maybe some paintings and wall sconces along the walls. I might also suggest putting a dividing wall between the seating area and the path from the entrance door to the counter to break up that big empty space in the floor.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

@thenoodle: not black lines, colored lines in the black space.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Wingman_mn - Maybe put the seat on a hinge brick? Or would he be leaning back too far then?
I think I can see the lines you're talking about, but, sorry, I don't know how to get rid of them.

Why isn't this stickied?

First focus was on multiple particle emitters with custom particles (laser bolts and blast shapes with lights attached to them) serving as gun fire.  Second was on animating the fighter's flight path and converting it to motion path, smoothing out the key points and lining it up so that its shots would hit the frigate.

FYI, best viewed in HD.

NO, you're camera settings are F'd up. The tracking itself was choppy and kinda meh.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Not very good. Keep working on it, though to get a smoother track.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

It was okay, but it definitely needed some improvment. When you're doing a tracking shot, the camera has to move the same distance every frame. Your shot stops a few times, and then rushes a little at the end to catch up with the guy. Just make a few small changes, and you should be good to go.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

I checked it frame by frame and it looks like you forgot to move it in one frame then moved it too much a few frames later.

This is terrible animation but here, tell me what you think. mini/smile

I absolutely despise the whip sound. That's seriously the only sound I could get.
Edit: Here's a terrible blue screen test I thought might like too.

It's terrible.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

You used the word "terrible" three times in your post. What kind of critique do you expect?  mini/smile

The blue screen test seemed to have too much feather around the edges.
