Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

Scene 4 and 3... DONE.  Now onto 1,2,5 and 6.  So, I've just spend the past 2 1/2 hours working on this fairly big set..  The biggest I've every made, here's some pictures.

And this is a problem that I ran into, the lightning didn't really have a good effect through the windows....  They are pretty big windows for a lego man...

Trial 1: Without Lightning

Trial 2: Lightning generated by extra lamp.

Trial 3: Lightning created by handheld flashlight.

Yeah, I don't really like either of them, I want the flashes to be immense.

Put the lamp right up against the window to get it super bright.
That would be the highest brightness of the flash. When you animate the flash, make sure to ease it in and out by moving the lamp closer (for easing in) and farther away (for easing out). Also, use more frames for easing out than easing in.
Like this:
(on) |-|--|----| (REALLY BRIGHT) -----|---|--|-| (off)

If you're going to have more than one window illuminated with a flash, use more lamps.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

I'll try that out soon.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

News today is that the film festival's deadline is in the midst of April!  This is awesome for me since I've basically spent the past two weeks doing virtually nothing.

Well I have a tricky shot or two coming up.  One of them is going to involve me splashing the cast again to buy an X-Large Green Baseplate.

I am looking forward to seeing this it looks like it's going to be really interesting. Nice sets and the snippet of footage looked really smooth. Good Job!

The greatest of these is Love ... Love never fails.

I do realize that due to the fact that he has a double sided face it shows out the back but I'm gonna fix that in the final shot.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

First animation in the entire film!  This is what I did:

I used this nice lookin' set that I found in my brother's room.  No actually lamps were used to light the set.

Instead I used this cave-exploring head-light that made a really really really nice white light.

Shot looked like this without the lightning, in the final shot I also added a glowing effect to the lamp (where the light is supposedly coming from.)

In this shot the angel appears and scares the man.  (Just so you understand the frame)

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

Production did take a pause, but this week is Spring Break!  And I hope to finish the animation.  The Festival I'm entering this in has also been pushed back a month, so the deadline is now May 2nd.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

I want to say that I'm done, two simple scenes remain in the script.  This weekend I'll be finishing the film.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

I'm nearly there.  Less than 2 weeks to the festival.  I've come across a very very difficult scene and I'm currently working around it.  I need to finish this week.  Other than that it's looking beautiful in other places.  I think the movie will occasionally have ups and downs in the animation, but now I'm rushing.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

I'm almost there.  It's been 4 months of animation an now I just need to fill in the holes.  And let me tell you, there are a lot of holes.

Oh shart.

It's my first time working with after effects and it's very interesting putting 2d effects into a 3d world.  I'll get better with time.

Looks great bud, look forward to seeing it.

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

Well, have fun not sleeping this weekend. mini/tongue

Re: Angels Unawares - Update Thread

I'm proud to announce that the film is complete. Kinda..  I'm now exporting to Adobe Premiere to make final changes.  You may ask why, it's because in Premiere it's easier to get to after effects and the compression is much much much much much much better.

EDIT: Angels Unawares is officially 5:46 long.

EDIT: I also wanted to share this.  I created this shadow using after effects!  My first actual After Effects product!
