Re: Music Appreciation Thread for Gents

For the alternative people (which we are because most of us are adults who like lego) I'd like you to listen to Sigur Ros, which is an Islandic band that makes the most beautifull song in a language you'll never understand. I saw them in Paradiso (Amsterdam) this year. Man, that was one the best concerts of my life!

This song is pretty popular, and the best way to get them to know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L_DQKCDgeM

I've also spent three or so years trying to work out if I like Sufjan Stevens or not. Still not sure.

I love Sufjan Stevens, he's definitely one of my favourites.

The rest of the eclectic list includes:
The Gaslight Anthem,
Blur,
Modest Mouse,
The Sunday Drivers,
And of course Sufjan Stevens

My favourite bands/artists are probably Fleet Foxes...Bombay Bicycle Club...Phoenix...

Yes... yes... and yes. I love all of them, especially Fleet Foxes.

Also Ben Howard is great. I'd advise anyone to listen to him, he's brilliant.

For classical music, Charles Ives, the first prominent American composer, is musically a genius who has never been duplicated (though Carl Stalling is close).  His music would be great in Brick films.

I also like Lana Del Rey

I'm a fan of hers, I've been listening to her a lot this past year.

Some songs of hers I really like in particular:
- Carmen
- Little Girls (Put Me in a Movie)
- Queen of the Gas Station
- Hundred Dollar Bill
- You're Gonna Love Me
- Boarding School
- Disco
- Kinda Outta Luck
+ pretty much a majority of songs from her album Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant.

The Punch Brothers are a fantastic bluegrass band. The Avett Brothers have some great stuff too.

I've been getting into some experimental electronic stuff. Birdy Nam Nam, Flying Lotus, Daedalus. Fun stuff.
