Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread
Where did you get those tiles? They look amazing.
In the final film, try colour correcting to make sure the white is a very neutral white.

@Squid: Thanks. I bought them in an unofficial LEGO shop in Delft in the Netherlands last summer. Yes, as I wrote in the last post, I'll make sure the white balance is right when we're shooting the actual film, and perhaps even do some color correction too.
That's a really nice set. Some great details. I'm curious as to why there is money in a bathroom drawer but perhaps that will be revealed when the movie is released.
I personally hate working with white bricks because the bricks themselves often become discolored over time and it's hard to get a consistent shade of white throughout the entire set. I realize this is easier said than done, but review your set and see if you can maintain a consistent shade of white brick throughout; if you have the bricks, of course.
Great job!
Are those decals on the tiles?
This is really well done, although I feel like you need a towel of another colour and a toilet seat. Also, why is there money in the drawer?
Those tiles should be on the walls
@AlNicklesFilms: Thanks! I have tried my best, but most of the white bricks are already spent on a homemade "modular building", which I'm also thinking of including in this film.
@Jampot: Yes, the decals are on the tiles. Thanks! I'm planning on adding some towels hanging on the wall to the right. Also, the money won't be there in the film – they'll be somewhere else in the bathroom.
@WoutStopmotion: Well, yeah, but I didn't have anything else that would suit as a bathroom floor, so I decided to use them there instead of on the wall.
That is really cool. Especially the tiles, wow.
So why is there money in the bathroom drawer?
My one thing i'd do, is get a tiny bit of paper, and just make it look like the toilet paper is hanging down a little, it'd add alot of detail.
It... it... its so amazing... The tub, toilet, sink, bench, towel bar... The tile is that custom?
Mint!
Thanks guys. I'll see if I'll do something about the toilet paper, and add some towels.
At the very beginning of Welcome to Darkmoor, I'm going to have the letters for the title build up out of LEGO bricks and then go away.
This is the set I built for it:
I also plan to colour the letters in red, which will probably take a really long time.
I'm not sure about the skeleton in the cavity. Though, I might fill all four cavities with skeletons, or perhaps four different creepy characters.
Any thoughts on improvements? Think it needs decoration
For the ones not filled, maybe add spider webs, and actually have a spider on one of them. I think having a single skeleton works great.
Those letters, Squid...so much wow.
Looks pretty sweet! I would fill the spaces with creepy characters.
I was going to say that the letters are too dark, but if you color them red, they will look great. Perhaps if you have the skeleton or some other creepy character walk past all four arches it'll work.
Also, I made this little ray-gun:
The front is an actual LEGO piece which comes from the 2005 TIE-Fighter. It's the top of light-up Darth Vader's head, which can be removed.
I wish I had the time to make a feature length Brickfilm.
Squid-I don't know the proper usage of the archways in your film but perhaps filling them with rubble would be cool? Various skeleton parts could be strewn about - heads and arms buried and sticking out. One doorway could have a bit of rubble/vegetation in the foreground and the skeleton that is prominent in your picture could be behind the arch- like a silhouette.
And nice ray gun. I've never seen that part before. Looks like a thumbtack.
Jared
I love the letters but the set feels to flat and plain. Maybe try add pillars or natural-rock face type stuff to the walls to the sides of the archways. Also I think there needs to be something on top to balance it out. I'd try adding two trees on either side of the letters with branches that stretch out on top and just about meet in the middle.
Also I really like the space gun. Very clever part usage.
