Hmm... have you set up your iPod to sync new episodes of the podcast automatically? It's working OK on my nano, but once the episode isn't new (doesn't have the blue dot next to it) it automatically removes it.
Are you able to put the iPod in manual mode and then drag the episode onto it, as per here?

Yeah, you should put more 'old' movies on the podcast. There's a lot of gems out there that most people haven't seen.

Did you try the whole manual adding thing I linked to? I think it's either that or you haven't got your iTunes hooked up to automatically copy new episodes to your iPod.
No they're all the same. You shouldn't have to convert or do anything other than download them in the podcast feed and copy them to your iPod.
