Staff Review

This is quite an achievement.  This film is entertaining and mostly successful in keeping this viewer's attention.  If you enjoyed Vandy's America: Outlawed you'll find a similar style and approach to the storytelling here.  The story follows some of the conventions that a good pirate story should, but includes enough twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Technical qualities in this film are more consistent than the director's previous work, and also more complex -- there are some great water effects in this film though they do look quite computer generated at times.  Some of the camerawork is quite daring, with impressively expansive dolly shots.

The score is also impressive, at times it is reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean, though the style of the music in those films was pretty fitting so that's probably a good thing.  Voice acting is strong across the board, most of the voices are caricatured and fit with the film's slightly cartoony style.
