Director's Comments

An adaptation of Chapter 15 from the book, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. Jonas comes to visit Giver, but on this paticular day, something is not right...This is a scene that stood out to me when originally reading this book in middle school. This is my original take on the material, being created through the technique of stop motion animation, with lego people.

Staff Review

Randy Yard:
Having read the book is a big help in understanding this one, but even those who haven't read Lowry's excellent novel will be able to glean some enjoyment. It's not the director's best, as the pacing is a little slow in the middle sections and the cinematography is weak compared to some of his other work. But the usual quality animation is here, and Tripod does a nice job of showing the emotion of his characters without resorting to facial animation or an overuse of dialogue. A heavily desaturated color palette adds a unique touch to this short as well, and though this probably won't be a film you bookmark for future viewing, it's certainly worth a look.
