Director's Comments

"LEGO EGO" was made by my brother Tom Willemse in 2006 as a school assignment for the RITS.

It can be described as a "slice of life" and shows us an average day in the life of Tom.
That is, until one of his teachers vanishes into thin air and gets replaced with an odd foreigner. He takes it upon himself to find the answer.

Staff Review

Squash:
Lego EGO is one of those brickfilms that just feels classic. The story is not extraordinarily complex, but it doesn't really need to be. This film aimed to be fun, and in that pursuit it succeeded.
Technical aspects are average, with some very creative uses of the LEGO medium to take note of. Cinematography was not badly done, aiming to be simple rather than overwhelming, and it fit the mood of the film. The musical choices, both selected and created (one of the highlights of this film is the creator's band's music) give it a nice lighthearted feel well suited to the plot. Speaking of plot, as said before, the plot was relatively simple, and sometimes it meanders into events which are not directly related to the central conflict. Some may argue that there is material in the film that is not necessary to the storyline which should have been cut. I do not believe this is so. Part of the unique atmosphere of this film is that, as the creator states, it is set up as a "slice of life" (although, if your daily life includes even a small portion of the zany happenings in this film, I want a piece of that pie!). It doesn't aim to go anywhere fast, or get to the point, it just wants to enjoy the journey. It is a very individual film- in a time when every film wants to be flashy or edgy, Lego EGO just aims to be itself. It's not perfect, but the attention to details and the enjoyable style carried by this film's storytelling technique are more than enough to make it well worth its 10 minutes run time. So class, your assignment: Kick back, relax, and watch Lego EGO today!
