Director's Comments

This is it.  Our BiM 2010: Avant-Garde entry!  Meet two minifigs: one red and one blue.  Each have the "elemental-brick" power of their color.  Their existence serves only one purpose: to battle each other!  Who will win?

Staff Review

Squash:
Upon looking at the numerical score for Brick Battle, you may get the impression that it is just your average, run of the mill brickfilm- not great, not terrible, and you might decide it isn't worth your time to watch it. That would be a shame. Brick Battle doesn't have amazing animation (a tad on the slow side, although there are some innovative methods of brick animation in the titular battle). The sets are minimal and simplistic, not complimented by the fairly basic cinematography. Even the plot is almost nonexistent, consisting of two minifigures fighting each other using the building blocks that make up a LEGO world, with no motivation given as to why they are fighting. However, all this said, Brick Battle, even from a technical standpoint, is not bad, and as such, it's slight weaknesses do not distract from the main purpose of this film. That purpose is entertainment. Brick Battle takes the tired concept of minifigures fighting, mixes it with the oft used brick animation which typically lacks defined characters, and mashes them together with an intense soundtrack to create... well, a fun film, and one that will undoubtedly keep your attention, if only for a single viewing. So if you are looking for a light, enjoyable film that harks back to the early days of brickfilming, look no further- Brick Battle is the film for you.
