Director's Comments

Jedi learner Ar-Ren Tern struggles with his spirituality as he finds himself in the middle of historic Star Wars events. With the help of others, he wrestles with God and battles new evils, forever changing the destiny of that galaxy far, far away.

This project, a feature-length stop motion, was WAY too ambitious for me at the time, given that I had only inconsistently produced short films and my skills were not yet where I wanted them to be. So naturally I made it anyway.

Onto the specifics of Part 1: the chroma key is much better than in Last Stand, but still not great. I think I was still using Adobe Premiere Elements 9, whose chroma key tool was not the best. This was also my first attempt at blaster VFX. For whatever reason, the blaster shots don't actually show up at their points of origin despite keyframing them to do so. Makes for some unsatisfying shots. Fortunately both these problems would be solved in subsequent parts, as I shifted post-production to Final Cut Pro X.
