Yellow is the standard Lego minifigure colour. Not flesh.

I'll definitely use flesh colour for more realistic or suspenseful brickfilms, but i don't have many of it and i prefer Yellow as it's - indeed - more classic, and i'm a sucker for Town, so...

I would suggest that you invest in a handful of flesh heads, you never know when you will need them again, and it matches the real Superhero heads. Plus some of them look pretty sweet.

If it was Harry Potter or Star Wars you could get away with it by using the older official heads, or even re-coloring the newer heads, but I think it looks bad when people change the skin tone of licensed figures that have always been flesh.

It's just a distraction when they're mixed, at least to me. So please don't do that. It's ok when it's used as a big plot point, but I don't care for when folks are just supposed to ignore it and move on.

My current problem is that I want to make a bunch of licensed theme characters but don't have enough flesh heads. I still don't think I can bring myself to mix the two in the same brickfilm - it'd look a bit odd.

Then again, filmyguy did a brickfilm a while ago where the minifigure skin difference was actually part of the plot. I think it was called The Chase.

This is interesting. Normally I'd use yellow heads for anything that isn't Licensed, but I actually think flesh can work well in certain non-licensed settings. For example, the book 'Lego Space: Building the future' (which I highly recommend, it's brilliant) uses flesh along with the classic space uniforms, to great effect.

The Prestigious Pie speaks the truth, what he says is all I would have said except ONE thing.
You could totally make all the flesh heads look yellow with a highlighter. Pritchard mentioned that tip to me a long time ago, and I did that with one head in The Shrouded Past and the Elf ears in Perpetual Twilight. It actually isn't noticeable if applied evenly, but you'll have to continue reapplying it fairly often. It doesn't stay on (it'll wipe right away) so anytime I bumped it I had to put more.
It's not very convenient, but it is doable.
Anyways, that being said, I think it might look odd with yellow-headed Marvel heroes, especially since they have a trademarked look. You know? Maybe you could pull off mixing, or maybe you should invest in some flesh heads.
This is the real issue I see with using the highlighter, it may just look wrong.
But yeah, you could try a test with that at least and see how it goes.
Oooookay, time to bring this up again.

I'm contemplating using a mix of yellow and flesh heads for some Marvel brickfilms...thoughts? Would it look to awkward? My problem is that I don't have a wide range of flesh heads, but I do have a huge number of yellows. That said, I can't use entirely yellow because some printed superhero faces have flesh tone elements.
Well, the Lego Movie did it very well, and if you can pull it off, go ahead. I personally like both. Yellow is classic, whimsical, and can be used in a lot of themes. I think the flesh work particularly well in fantasy films (although squid makes some very good fantasy with yellow), I think it would look weird if people like brotherhood workshop did yellow heads. But I really hate the clone faces, they are really disproportionate and ugly.

Anyways, that being said, I think it might look odd with yellow-headed Marvel heroes, especially since they have a trademarked look. You know? Maybe you could pull off mixing, or maybe you should invest in some flesh heads.

well that isn't really the flesh color I had in mind. brown and more tan skin like that is alright. sorry I hadn't thought about flesh tones in between yellow and flesh Indiana johns'
