Well, for a first, it was really good. You pretty much stated everything in your own post, though I didn't notice much light flicker, at least not as bad as most beginner films.
See if your camera has manual focus as a solution to the focus issue.

The only problem I had was the story, which could have been told in a better way. It took me two tries to understand what was going on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB6N6G_VZ04

This is technically my first brickfilm, as I had another project called 'Lego warfare', but I discontinued it.:eh:

I kinda did an assesment of it, and got some positives and negatives:

Positives: :)
+ Mostly smooth animation.
+ Original idea.
+ Good quality & lighting.
+ Nice walk cycle (As usual, I mastered that stuff.)

Negatives: :(
- light flicker
- My camera doesn't like to keep a consistent focus
- Some parts weren't to the point where they gave off the illusion of movement.
- I'm not 100% proud of it, I feel I could've done better.

But honestly, light flicker and camera focus not being right is driving me nuts. My desk lamps stay in the same place, my camera is blu-tac'd to the table, (It doesn't move) and I just don't know what I'm missing. auaaugh.
