Yeah, I wouldn't expect to make a huge profit. Obviously I'll be looking to at least make back the cost of producing it, but it's really just something I've always wanted to do. It just makes a film/series more complete if there's a physical copy.

I'm planning on selling it from home on my own website (there's a web store option) and possibly bricklink.
As for the price; it's not final, but it'll have to be something near it, as I have to make a reasonable profit from it. I've looked at others who have released DVDs, and they're usually around $10, only seem to include around 20-30 minutes worth of actual animation(s), and I would be including almost 2 hours worth.

I won't be going any further with this project until I know there's enough interest in it. I'm also probably going to do a small kickstarter to cover the production costs (with rewards obviously).

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Bumping a three year old thread? Someone call the police :P

Eh, $23 seems kind of heavy; I've seen some recent cinema releases with that type of price tag. The 'deluxe' 2-disc version seems like it would be a great deal, but you'll have to generate a lot of interest with marketing and promo, probably more than YouTube. Plus, where do you plan on selling it? From home? Amazon.com? Walmart/Target? These are questions that must be answered.

As for myself, I probably wouldn't buy it right now, because I'm tight on money and I'm particularly busy with college trips and stuff.
I thought about a poster, and it could happen, but ultimately it's more cost, so I don't know if I'd do it with the DVD.
I could look into maybe producing 5 or so with A2 posters perhaps.
You could always send out posters to the first 5 or 10 people who buy it, Sorta get people to buy a copy of the film faster. Would residents of the US be able to buy the DVD?
...film some additional scenes for each film, which were previously cut for the sake of time.
Deleted scenes? Sure, go for it. But, if you're talking an extended edition of the film, than...well, I guess that could work.

As for the price, I'd say $23 would be good. Maybe you could up the price some and throw in a deluxe "trilogy poster" that comes with the 2-disc DVD. I know some film trilogies that have that.

It sounds like a good idea, Sam. And I hope my words help you some. I would probably buy the DVD, as soon as I could round up the cash for it.

Ok, firstly I'm sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, but it made more sense to write in an existing one, rather than starting up a new one. Anyway, I do actually have something relevant to say so here goes:

I'm finally considering producing a 2 disc DVD of My Package Trilogy, which will include; A remastered version of the first one plus the second two, some of my other short films, commentaries, trailers and behind the scenes featurettes (or a whole documentary). I also may film some additional scenes for each film, which were previously cut for the sake of time.
I'm thinking of pricing it at around £15/$23/€18 (based on current exchange rates), though that may be a little high.

So I want to know if anyone would actually be interested? And secondly, is £15/$23/€18 a decent price for it?

I'm not sure this will even happen, but if I get enough interest, I will go ahead with it.

Selling brickfilms.com DVDs worked back in the day because they were collections of films from the big contests that had rules about film content that made them acceptable to distribute. It wasn't about having the films in high quality, which can be accomplished easily over the internet. It was about having a bunch of brickfilms you can watch on your TV one after another, and about owning a memento of the hobby at that place and time.

Authoring, packaging, and selling the DVDs was a major pain in the butt, but it was totally worth it because they were an awesome thing for people to have. Z made great artwork for them, and it was fun to see a menu loaded with good films. Plus getting something in shrink wrap is always a good time.

LEGO blocks are not copyrighted, because you can't copyright an object. Copyrighting is for things like stories and music. You can trademark a design, such as the LEGO logo, but you can't trademark a basic shape or color. There were several legal cases that preceded the decision to make and release brickfilms DVDs that added weight to the idea that LEGO couldn't sue over their blocks being used in art that they don't like. I never felt unsafe doing the DVDs the way we did them.
