I edit after I animate, but the reality is that I never thought of editing while animating. I'm going to try that and see which one works best for me. Sometimes it seems like a lot of work when I edit, if I do that while animating, it might seem that there's less work (it's obviously the same).
It does make it easier, you get a good idea of what you have, before you completely stop animating.

I find that the best way to edit and animate is to animate a scene, take the images and edit them into a fullspeed clip, and have a look at what it looks like. However, I won't actually do the final editing (sounds/music/greenscreening/CGI/imagebalancing/etc.) until I've got all or most of the animation done. So I can watch it progress and make sure everything is fitting correctly, but don't have to put all the time required for final editing in until I've finished animating everything.

I find it easier, though sometimes I will edit a scene just to see how everything is coming out...but that's usually only on big projects (like Doorway to Emotion).

I edit as I go along, and then refine everything afterwards. So I'll make a project and put all my clips in it in order and cut them together, then once it's all done I go back and fix most of it up. The idea was that if there was a crappy shot I could go back and re-film it or do something else with it before I take down the set, buut as these things work out, I'd look at a mediocre shot and just think; 'naah yeah, she'll be right'
