An entry in Bricks in Motion 2010: Avant-Garde.
Is it the hyphen? Are there two Avant Garde Contests I'm not aware of where one has a hyphen and the other doesn't? And read the comment again. One of those words you're looking for is there. Of course, I don't really give a frak.

Oops, missed one worth commenting on.

Good animation, lack of plot, and product advertisement aside, is it really Avant-Garde?

Avant-Garde-worthy? Well, animating outside the minifig realm is uncommon, but is that unconventional? But if it's unconventional to you, then by the ambiguous definition of this contest: yes.

For the MoFilm contest, they asked me to create a second version with colors in the background which is sort of what you're talking about. But I prefer the original on white.

Very Creative and original. You did a good job keeping the lighthouse in the same place while animating the light; animating that many pieces is really difficult. Although the white expanse was successful, it would have been interesting having the background change to the theme of each object, such as the lighthouse near an ocean, and the car driving on a road. You could just have a still picture that transitions at the same time as the object. As others have said, the transitions are very well executed. Five Stars
