I do this myself, sometimes it's strenuos, but if you're on a budget of time then it works pretty good. Like what I do is I describe the lines and characters to my actors then I tell them how long the seconds would be while the dialogue is in motion, then I animate the speaking within that time frame.
I'll doing my best to do that. Thanks. I have already started my script.
I think you're wrong. It would be rude to force the actor to adapt his performance to some animators interpretation of what the character should be.

I think the actors maybe watching sample animations, tests, etc to get the character down.

Unless you can tell exactly which film you're talking about (I'll watch the bts) it still doesn't make sense to me.
I might very well be wrong - the footage might have been edited to look like he was mouthing over the final product. I can't give any specific examples at the moment, so I'll have to dig into my collection to find some films.
you're telling me that they animated madagascar before they recorded the voices?
I've seen a lot of CGI animated films behind the scenes footage where the actors look at the screen and talk syncing to the CGI animal/whatever's mouths. But you're right, it makes far more sense to record the dialogue first and then animate to it. That way you know exactly how and when the character should move.
maybe in live action. but in animation, i see no possible way you can arbitrarily animate characters and then sync voices up after.
They've done it before in animation. It may not be stop-motion but it's animation: Ice Age, and other animations like Madagascar.

it was a joke. do you still not get it?

you shouldn't capture a frame of your film without knowing what its about. i dont know how you can expect to animate dialogue without first recording it.
