Webcams are much easier to work with, as BertL said, but I use a camcorder, and it works great too. I would definitely try checking out the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 or 4000. Camcorders are probably better quality wise, but you'd need to buy an expensive frame capture software such as StopMotion Pro (but what do I know?), to capture images, when with webcams you can make a brickfilm virtually free with only a 30$ webcam, and then camcorders can cost over 400$.

Webcams would be better, but do some research before you go off and buy yourself a proper webcam.

Webcams are the easiest to work with usually, though both cameras and camcorders beat webcam's quality. Personally, I think a camera that can be directly hooked up to the computer and has the capability of having all settings (including focus) on manual is the absolute best way to shoot animation. I imagine these types of cameras to be the most balanced between quality and ease to use.

But yeah, for most amateurs webcams work good enough, though of course that wasn't part of your question at all (way to go other dudes who posted above me).

I would suggest a Webcam, Assuming you can get Great quality Webcams, for low price.
If you wan't to find a good Camcorder, You need to be specific about the specs.
Alot of Great camcorders, doesn't seem to work on regular softwares, such as MonkeyJam, or Helium Frog.
As alot of people already said before; I would suggest a.. Logitech Quickam Pro 9000.
