Actually, [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/40195501@N06//]this guy[/url] seems to have found a way to make normal light beams visible in photographs. I'm not sure how practical it would be for brickfilming, though, and I'm equally not sure if it would work with lasers, but it would be loads of fun to try. Here's an example:

Get some batteries, and you're all set.
