While I don't think it's really necessary to purchase software for effects, if you deem it a good use of money, go for it.
Read about each program, read reviews, read manuals, read tutorials, look at work done with them, and if possible, download trial versions. I don't have experience with either, but if you do those things, you should be able to decide easily enough.]]></description>
