• Is this a hardware issue, or a software issue? I'm thinking that it's a software issue, because I haven't really had any problems starting up the computer or anything, apart from it taking forever to do so. I just wanted to make sure, because my friend and I installed a GB of RAM several months ago, and I heard that if this isn't done properly, you can seriously mess up your computer, however, we made sure that we didn't do anything that would create any negative effects later.

Well, I think a Hard reboot can cause problems, because it terminates processes while they're in the middle of functioning, and propably leaves little fragments of codey crap.

Sorry if I've got that wrong, and just made a fool of myself, but I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere.

Hey guys, I am in need of your assistance.

Over the past month or so, my XP has been going nuts. If I do a hard-reboot (holding down the power button) it takes about five minutes to start up, which is about four minutes longer than average, then any important windows, like the C:/ drive, will take another minute to load. Restarting the computer via the Start menu is the only remedy to this problem I've come across. Besides that, I cannot open the Control Panel without Windows Explorer crashing completely and taking a minute to reboot, and just today, TextEdit decided to start being impossible; only the text will appear, and any white background behind the text; anything else, like the menu at the top which makes it easy to quit the program, will not show up. I'm sure there will be more problems popping up soon, and since I am not getting my MacBook as soon as I'd like, I still need this computer. So, I have two questions.

• How would I go about backing up all my files and other information, then reinstalling Windows? I've tried to back everything up onto an external HD manually, but apparently there are some files that Windows won't let me transfer, but maybe if a program did it? If so, what program would you suggest, if there isn't already a program on Windows to do this? I want to be very precise about this, because I have a ton of information on my computer that I don't want lost, like all the videos/audio/etc for Sequel is Irrelevant, and a story I am working on, and have been for about a year now. If I lost any of that stuff, well, it would be a great inconvenience. Also, will I have to reinstall any drivers I've had installed (Quickcam and NVidia drives are the most important), or will the backup include those as well?

• Somewhat unrelated, but I have two hard drive petitions, I think, and I'd like to merge them so I'll have more room. There is the C:/ drive and the E:/ drive. I never use the E:/ drive, and have deleted everything on there anyway, which was probably a bad idea; I cannot access it now, and I have no idea how to completely erase everything from it. In total, the two drives hold about 100 GB, but it's split 70-30, and I'd like to use all 100, but I have no idea how to do that.

If you don't have any advice for me, please don't bother posting; this is a rather serious issue and a simple "Well, that stinks!" isn't going to help me at all. Thanks.
