I'm glad to say the soundtrack has finally been released on spotify!

You can check it out here:
https://open.spotify.com/album/307ftRUS5f3LZlUSRH87NG?si=nn7hYV4ZT8WzFokjS7LJAA

Special thanks to BiMs own JonnDthunDer for providing incredible feedback to me during the composing process.

This would also probably mark the last time I ever update this thread, but I'll probably be starting a new production log in just a few weeks. See you then!

Cheers!
Awesome! I can't wait until its released!
You can find it in the "Release" section now!
That's wonderful! I've been excited for this film for quite a while.
I hope it does very well in the contest!
Thank you! :D Hopefully the end result delivers :o
Wow so excited to hear this is finally done. So many large projects crumble apart over time, but you stayed on course with this film all the way through! Can’t wait to finally see this, and good luck in the summer contest!
Thank you! And yeah, it's easy to lose sight of the end goal and just give up halfways, but I'm glad I made it to the end. I find it helps immensly to keep a production log here and get feedback and support!
Wow, how did I not know about this until the release? I was blown away by the final video, and the fact that it took 2 years rather than 2 months makes a lot of sense. Fantastic work, and the contest timing is just a bonus!
Haha! I'm so glad you liked it! And thank you for all your kind words!

No update, just some links to the finished film! I've released it on youtube now, and I'd be honored if anyone would like to check the end result out for themselves:

Update time!

ALL DONE! I finished the colour grading a few days ago, and I've been fine tuning some audio stuff and adding some minor visual effects since then. As of writing this post, I just submitted the finished film to the "Fright and Fear" contest and I'm glad to say the entry has been accepted!

The finished film will be uploaded to youtube on wednesday the 2nd of september 19:00 GMT. Hope to see you there in the comment section! I'm working on releasing the score on spotify as well, but that'll probably take another two weeks ish.

But that's it :o No more updates to come (although I might write a small post once the score is available on spotify). This project has been a blast from start to finish, and big thanks to everyone who auditioned or otherwise just helped out with bringing it to life. And thanks to you for following this production log!

A new project might very well be just around the corner... but until then:

Cheers!
Thanks!
Had been following this in the beginning but got lost a little bit between updates. Glad to see you're still working on this! I still remember when it was just in the pre-production. You've come so far and I'm excited to see what comes next.
Glad to hear it! And thanks, without you lending your voice acting the film wouldn't be nearly as good. I'm honestly surprised myself how much work I've managed to get done on this project.

Update time!

The sound mix is pretty much finished, which means I've also recorded all of the foley and additional sound effects.

This leaves only the colourgrading left to to (and possibly some minor visual effects and fixes if I feel I have the time).

I've also decided to try my best to finish the film in time for the "Fright and Fear" summer contest. It's the perfect motivation I need to finish it all, and the theme for the contest was too much of a perfect coincidence not to participate (although I feel like quite the cheat for submitting a film I've worked on for 2ish years, but I assume this will be taken in account by the judges). Although I'll be out of town for about a week now during the latter half of august, so fingers crossed I can get it all done in time :o

Once again, I don't really have any exciting pictures or stills. I did sit down to watcha new rough cut of the entire film and take notes just a about an hour ago though, which looked something like this:

Basically I wanted to listen to the sound mix with some proper speakers, and not just through the headphones I use while working on the film.

Cheers!

Great! Glad I could help!

Update time!

Just a quick update this time to let you know that the teaser trailer is finished a lot sooner than expected! A link to the trailer can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikQFAllrQDM

The solo vocals for the soundtrack have been recorded (a sample can be heard in the trailer), and I've pretty much finished up the music completly now, but I might make a few more tweaks a bit down the line.

This means I only really have three things left to do:
- Record all the sound effects and foley
- Finish the sound mix
- Colourgrade the film

How long will it take? No idea, but I'm planning to have it done by the end of summer at least!

Cheers!

How are you making your music?
I use a program called cubase for all the recording, mixing and mastering. All of the orchestral stuff is completely digital, so I record all the parts as midi. Cubase doesn’t really have any good digital instruments though, so I use a combination of the sound libraries from East West Studios and Orchestral Essentials. So the sound libraries basically just contain the digital instruments, and then I use Cubase for the recording.

For the horror-stuff I mostly layer different sound effects and audio files, sometimes altering them a bit first (like pitching them down, slow them down, etc). The two solo instruments (solo vocals and nyckelharpa) will be recorded for real, so won’t use a sound library for those.

Hopefully that answers your question! :)

...Luckily I'm also getting the generous help of BiMs very own JonnDthunDer, who'll act as sort of a "Sound and Music Supervisor" and listen through all the sound mixing and give me feedback! :)...
Oh hey, that's me! Happy to be a part of it.
I love the realistic approach you're taking and the intentionality you're using when doing sound and music. I look forward to continuing to see this progress!
