Any of the Canon Powershot cameras are good and relatively inexpensive (they are small for easier storage/transport and better for taking places like vacations, etc.). A few of the Powershots also have manual focus and remote capture for animation.

Some of the Nikon Coolpix ones are okay as well, but the L11 that I had wasn't very good, so be careful with those. If you're looking at higher end SLR cameras I would suggest the Canon Digital Rebel or any of the Nikon D-series cameras. They can be sort of tricky to figure out though.

Why not get your folks to give you some money and then buy two cameras.

You can get a second hand canon A85 for about £30 ($50) , a New logitech Q9000 for about £60. Both can be used for animation. Your folks would be pleased that you are trying to use money carefully by buying second hand where possible.

I have to get a photo camera for school next year. but my parents want to give me one now already so I can take photo's during my vacation.

What do you recommend ?

I would love one with awesome functions (and possible use for animation maybe ?)
