I never realised that you had been producing this book for so long! The BJ issue was the trigger point for getting me started in brickfilming, so thank you so much for the wonderful opportunity that you have opened up to me! The BJ animation issue was also how I found out about Brick 101, (or as I will always remember him by) Nightly News at Nine ;)
How'd you end up getting hooked up with the publisher? It's honestly a great match for this type of book. And did the idea for this book happen to sprout out of that one issue of the BrickJournal you guys were in on Brickfilms all those years ago? I ask because this book seems to go over a lot of those same concepts that that mag touched on. That book is like super special to me, I grabbed it from the LEGO Store when I first stated Brickfilming and it just inspired me so much. I think I might still even have it.
You hit the nail on the head. We basically went right from collaborating on the BrickJournal Issue to working on the book. I think we write ouf first outline for the book in June 2011. We didn't dive right into writing the book though. First we established our blog The Set Bump, so we'd have a place to practice writing about brickfilms and develop a shared voice. In late 2013, we approached No Starch with a proposal for the book and they were on board.

Glad to hear that the BJ issue was so important to you. :)
Oh, and does the titular lack of starch contribute to No Starch's Press' good smell? I know I'm fixated on this but I really can't get over it. It never goes away, seriously.
Not sure if it's that or just a side effect of the magic rituals they perform to trap the spirit of LEGO minifigures inside the book ;)

Congrats on getting the book all finished up, guys! And I was so glad when I heard the book was getting published through No Starch Press. Their books on LEGO have always been fantastic, and they just SMELL SOOO GOOOOOOOOD!!

Just wanted to say if anyone has any questions about how we made the book, we'd be happy to answer them. :) Also stay tuned for a new brickfilm that the two of us have been jointly producing in conjunction with the book debuting soon. ;)

Longtime pillars of the brickfilming community David Pagano and David Pickett, in cooperation with No Starch Press, have published a new book about how to make LEGO animations.

Whether you are just getting started or have been involved in the hobby for quite some time, this is a helpful guidebook that covers the process of making a film from start to finish. I was particularly impressed by the artful layouts and heavy use of visual aids and illustration throughout; this book has been years in the making, and the talent and hard work put into it is evident in every page.

If you're looking for a solid introduction to any aspect of how to make a LEGO animation (whether it's a very basic beginner film or something more advanced), I think this book will prove to be an invaluable resource and an enjoyable read.

The book is available through No Starch Press (includes a free eBook copy!) or on Amazon.
