Until quite recently, I used a microphone that was built on some headphones that I bought for £1 ($1.56 US).

When it stopped working, I bought a proper microphone which was reduced from £50 ($78.01) to just under £12 ($18.72) on special offer.

I've never really had any problem with background noises, so my setup is literally just a microphone without anything over it.

My set up is pretty much the same; acoustic foam glued to a shortened poster board, with a pop filter. If you're not using a pop filter, you're cheating yourself out of better audio; they're incredibly cheap to make or buy. While I did put a little bit of money into my setup (that foam isn't cheap), if I'm honest I don't think it's really necessary. rioforce's even cheaper version probably gives the same results. (I partially bought a pop filter instead of making one because I think the look cool. :P )

I was trying to improve my audio quality for my films, because I was getting an awful lot of background noise, so I did a bit of research on chat and web search, and built a padded cardboard box for a "sound-room" and used a nylon stocking for a pop filter. It works wonders, it removed all of the noise and pops. I was pleasantly surprised.

This got me thinking that it would make an interesting topic to see how everyone else records and if they have ay little tips and tricks to share. So here's the topic to do that in. ;)
