It has been a while, so I thought I would give you all two updates this time around.

Update one - 1

First, some work has been done to the train station since the last update. The first self serve ticket machines have gone in place at the base of the ramp. These are based off of the ticket machine in set #60050, just in a more suitable colour for the modern subway station.

At the top of the ramp, I have made the clock and time board more compact, as I believe it gives it a nicer finish.

Downstairs, I have done some work on the electrical cables. I'm not entirely happy with this design yet, so it will probably change. The wires arent working, just for appearance, although I plan to get my hands on a proper power functions train later.

Over tother side, I have put up some billboard advertising, as well as a security camera.

Update two

Now for a new part of the city. The canal wil be the largest part of the entire city, as it stretches the entire length, and quite a depth as well. As you can see by what I have already built, it will be sunken beneath street level, which is possible due to the large foundation my city will eventually be on. There is still some refining of the design, however I am farely happy with what it already looks like, even in this early stage. Some notable parts that can be seen in the pictures below include trasparent blue and clear pieces that will cover the base of the canal and give it depth. The canal wall is bursting with the character you would expect in a European canal city, with masonry bricks acting as a facade for the exposed foundation, which then sits behind large reinforced arches, keeping the foundation from caving in. I haven't yet got the height right, I just quickly built what I have done to a height equal to the train station entrance.

That's all for now. Keep your feedback coming.

I may not be posting an update anytime soon, as funds are tight at this point. I am finishing off a script for a Star Wars/mad-max inspired sci-fi film at the moment though, so stay tuned for that.
The city looks very good. I like that monster creature in the background.
I am quite held back in my brickfilms because I have very few bricks.
Being in Australia, I cannot find LEGO stores near me, and no pick-a-brick places.
Where do you get you LEGO bricks? Bricklink?
There aren't any Pick-a-Brick places in Australia, except for LEGO.com which is pay per piece. Usually I get my sets from large department stores, as I find the prices they show are set by LEGO in Australia, and then I save on shipping. For odds and ends, I will usually use Bricklink, as shipping tends to be cheaper that from LEGO.com. If I'm doing a large order ($200+), I'll probably use LEGO.com as I get free shipping then, and can earn VIP points too.

Other than that, I have been fortunate enough to have been to America twice, which I visited a few LEGO stores each time. I came home with about 5 Pick-a-Brick tubs each time, which took me hours to fill. Give it a couple of years and LEGO will start looking at opening stores in Australia anyway.

That monster creature in the background was a large Bionicle MOC that I made with a friend several years back, and I haven't taken it apart since
Beyond this, the city being modular design may have the ability to travel to various conventions.
Hope this answers the question :)

I do think it will definitely make it to the Australian conventions, such as Brickvention or Brick-A-Laide. Internationally really depends on the interest in the final product and if I can keep it mostly intact as it travels overseas in some way or another.

Look around Eurobricks or even Hoth Bricks; 50,000 Lego elements is tiny to what some people can amass in a few years.
Anywho; this is looking nice! Glad to see your return! When this is complete, will it be displayed at any major international Lego events, like BrickFair? I know you mentioned the mobility of modulars in your post.

I'm a little envious, both of your drive and the sheer volume of bricks you own.
I don't own that many bricks yet. Maybe only about 50,000, so there's a lot still to get.
Even so far, from the pictures you've shown, I'm pretty envious. I don't have anywhere near enough bricks of the same colour or shape to try building that kinda' schtick.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It is good to be back, and hopefully I'll be back to animation soon too. Just ordered some more grey brick from bricklink to get this part done. I'm probably going to work on the canal wall next, since I have an idea for that.
I'm a little envious, both of your drive and the sheer volume of bricks you own.

It looks as though you have already thought about this, but if you are planning on animating on this, MAKE SURE that you can easily use whatever camera you are using at good angles. Personal experience...
There will certainly be parts of the construction that will be able to get a camera in. I think it will probably be the outside parts and the subway station thanks to the cutaway. Since I want to build the modular buildings to scale, which is more important currently for me than being able to animate their interiors, I think they may have some problems getting a camera inside. It shouldn't be too hard to replicate parts of their interiors separately though. Like jampot said, it will be most effective for showing grand scale in the setting.

Great to see you again mate! Been a while.

This project sounds fantastic, and looks it too from the images you've posted so far. It's certainly quite an ambitious project but one that I'm sure will pay off in the end. One thing that's often missing from brickfilms is a sense of grand scale in physical sets (and no wonder, since they're expensive and complex builds) which will no doubt make you stand out even more as a brickfilmer. I have to say,, I'm a little envious, both of your drive and the sheer volume of bricks you own.

I'm extremely excited to see what you do with this :D best of luck, and I shall be eagerly watching this thread!
