I agree Twickabrick, the original storyline I had in mind was altered and I didn't know if this version portrayed the interpretation of the theme so I added the line - not my best idea certainly!

Thanks a bunch Mickey, nothing makes me happier than having my works enjoyed. And I'm glad to see someone else who knows Tycho, he's a fabulous artist!

Thank you as well Jon for the review, I really appreciate the compliments and the feedback on what I can improve on! The audio mixing was poor I agree, it was the last thing I had to do in my film and I had very little time so its rushed - I've considered uploading a redone version but I don't think it's worth it!
The files are .avi when I export them from Heliumfrog but then I transfer them to an iMac and to iMovie, could the transferal be part of the issue with colour bleeding? I'd certainly like to have better colours because I give an awful lot of time to atmospheric lighting!

Been catching up on entries today so I only just saw this now.
Really enjoyed this, you've been nailing your atmosphere in recent films, you seem to be a really good fit for the nice relaxing slow pace of things like this and Drifter. The music was nice, however my one complaint really is that the sound mixing was a bit off, and times things were hard to hear, the audio quality was also sometimes a bit jarring.
Pretty sure I already said this with Drifter but your cinematography is fantastic, the last shot was so amazing I actually let out an audible gasp. The only thing that lets it down is the way it's rendered, the dark lighting lends to some unfortunate colour bleeding with [I'm guessing] MP4 files, I think I found a way around it though so I may be able to get back to you on how to fix that. It's just unfortunate that such great shots and beautiful lighting end up in a file with bled colours.
Really enjoyed it, you'll have to teach me some of your lighting tricks.

First of all, Tycho's works are amazing. It sounds like a cross between U2 and Depeche Mode.

The sets, cinematography, and the writing are excellent. It creates a serene setting for your entry, and tells the deep story of a wandering night owl. I always enjoy seeing the new brickfilms you put out, Hal. Keep up the awesome work, and congrats on getting sixth place in the final results.

Really like the atmosphere you created with the lighting, narration, and music. The one thing I didn't like was at the end
when he said "it develops into day".
Maybe this is just me always thinking it sounds weird when people say the contest theme out loud, but this usage sounds kinda unnatural to me. Nice work overall, though!

This is so beautiful. Definitely my #1 favourite out of all the entries. Just like your last entry. I hope this gets higher position than you got last year. This one really deserves it. The sets where brilliant and really made the shots have more of a feel to them. The cinematography was fantastic. The Script was amazing. I really liked tho whole idea. Lastly, the lighting. Ooooh Jeeezz louise you did it again. The lighting looks SOO good especially when he is standing outside the window looking in. Hal I am very proud of you and I hope you stay with brickfilming. Not just enter brawls. :) Keep it up Halickens 10/10

Hi guys, good to hear you all enjoyed it :D I couldn't agree more about the audio quality, it was actually recorded with a studio level Blue microphone but it was rushed recording and thus doesn't have the quality I was hoping for. I am planning on fixing the levels and re-releasing at some point but I hope the film was still just as enjoyable to watch as it was for me to make :)

I thought it looks really cool and the sound of the music and the voice.

However, the voice was rather hard to understand as a result of three different things: The music was a little loud compared to the voice, the audio quality sounded a little off, and I'm not as familiar with an Irish accent as I'd like to be. Usually it's not a problem, but with these other two problems it does add slightly to not being able to understand it as well as I'd like. I had to put some effort into listening, and near the end I'm not actually sure yet what he was saying. I feel like your mic sounded a little better in LiF, though, I feel like I might've done something to it in audio editing to make it sound much nicer. However, I seem to have forgotten what exactly that was.
:P

But it is really cool looking. I like the cinematography and the music you used was really fitting and the voice also does sound cool with it even if I can't hear it well. It feels especially artistic.

As a night owl myself, I really like the idea behind this film.

I mentioned it on YT already, but I feel the sound balance is a bit off, as the music seemed a bit loud at times, and the mic quality wasn't the best. Also, I feel that smooth jazz may have benefited the atmosphere more than the piece of music you chose (although this may just be my personal opinion). Also, instead of still images, I think a few slow dolly shots or zooms would have greatly improved the film. Still, I really like this film, I love the atmosphere of it, and the night-time lighting was wonderfully executed.

Oh yes, and the scene in the bar reminds me a lot of the painting "Nighthawks". Was this intentional?

I really liked this film. While it is light on animation, I think you make up for it with really good narration and choice in music to create a great atmosphere that helps the viewer connect with this guy and his world despite the shortness of the film. Which is more than you can say for a lot of films.

Great work, definitely worth the 5 billion times the uploading got messed up.

A man roams the city through the course of a night, expressing his thoughts on life under the moon.

Really proud I managed to finish this on time somehow but it was a really fun experience. YouTube decreased the sound quality a bit which is kinda disappointing but hopefully it'll still be clear enough!

Everything by myself except the music. Thanks very much to Fun Sucker for hosting the contest and Brick Warriors for sponsorship.
