It required no background because of the low light levels and high shutter speed. The only light going onto the background and foreground from the camera perspective was the LED globes. The main light source is shining into the camera giving the appearance of a pitch black background.

The flames just needed to be positioned so they could be seen with the camera angle I used pointing up at the subject. The lighting setup also reflects the green grass onto the underneath of the horse, which is why I still had to have a green ground even though you can't see the ground in the animation.]]></description>
