I have decided to hold off on crowd funding as long as possible, and until I have something to show for this film. The expected release date still stands for December 2016, and will be reassessed as I continue forward with the production.

With the housekeeping away, I have started work on early concept models of my set designs. It's supposed to be a large New York loft style hall/warehouse. What do you all think?

Think big for sure but crowd funding ... that's a heavy burden for something that is suppose to be fun.

I'd do as much as I can with self-funding as far as possible and only when the finish is near consider some extra funds to add the last bit of spit and polish. That way you have a solid platform to launch such a campaign from because you've put in your own time and money and you have something to show for it.

I am aware of the challenges that face me, but with the right amount of planning, I should be able to get this done.
My reason for going into something so big, is that this is want I want from a career.
Also, relatively speaking, I have a lot of spare time to work on the project.

Thanks for voicing your concerns, I will address them further in the kickstarter project.

Good points, Brickelodeon. My own brickfilms are 20+ mins each. I never even considered crowdfunding for my series, and I also have had my own setback! I do this because I enjoy it. It helps me to relax. If people enjoy it, that's great. If they like the series so much they'd buy a DVD, even better. If neither happens, it's just as fine!

Think for a second KB, it takes an entire crew of professionals at least 3 years to make a single movie length film. And they get to use live action. You are about to try and make a 1.5+ hour film using only individual frames, and you don't have an entire crew. This could possibly take 5 to 6 years to finish if you want to make it good, and a lot of things can happen in 5 - 6 years, you could move, you could go to college, you could get a job, or you could be maimed in a futuristic monkey battle with evil aliens. There are so many things that would have to remain constant in order for you to finish this. Another thing you aren't considering is how you are going to be tied down to this project once you start. You might grow tired of working on the same film every day, and you would be stuck between a rock and a hard place. If you stopped production, you would let everyone who donated to your kickstarter down, if you continued it, you wouldn't enjoy it anymore, and isn't that the point of brickfilming? You are just setting yourself up for some disappointment, and it could quite possible ruin your entire career as a brickfilmer. I don't want to damper your spirit, but this is what almost always happens to big projects like this. Follow your heart, but I would urge you to think twice before starting this.

Update: I am revisiting the script, after a bit of a break to do some uni work. Over the next couple of weeks I hope to have a complete outline of the story, and a developing character list.

I am slowly getting around to contacting key cast and crew, and have found what will likely be my composer for the film. You can see his previous work here.

I have began writing a Kickstarter project, and should have that up and running before the end of October. It depends on how quickly I can get around to shooting some test footage as proof of work, and designing some logos and banners.

This seems interesting, and what I would like to know is that is this going to be an action or comedy? Either would be great, as there is a shortage of high quality feature brickfilms. I am actually making my own feature film, so I am glad to see that there are others with the same idea.

I will be applying for funding through ScreenWest within the next 2 weeks, and one thing they request is any letters of support from key cast and/or interested market parties. If there are any well known animators, or a representative of BiM, could they please do up a formal letter of support and send it to kabinator@yahoo.com? Thanks :)

Bump.

I'm starting to make some way with the first draft. About 10% complete. Here's a short preview that doesn't really give much away at all. It's the first montage I've ever written.

Montage - various

A) INT. CORRIDOR - MORNING - Walking down the corridor, Sam carries his clothes.

B) INT. BATHROOM - MORNING - The shower is steamy as Sam is mumbling a song.

C) INT. KITCHEN - MORNING - Reaching out to the bench, Sam grabs his mug of steaming hot coffee.

D) INT. CORRIDOR - MORNING - In his suit, Sam walks down the corridor carrying his mug and briefcase.

E) INT. TRAIN - DAY - In the crowded train, Sam sits reading the daily paper.

The latest Celtx versions on the official Celtx don't have all the tools for free anymore. They have licenses now for all the fancy things like storyboarding. If you can find an old version on the Celtx website, then go ahead :)
