Seriously though, I already watch every single film that comes out on this site.

That said, we are going to be retooling some of how the directory and releases forum work. There have been some delays as the programmer and myself are both overly busy right now, but we do have some cool things in store!

What if:
The only films that get "officially" reviewed are the ones that have more than 10 ratings already. And even if the film has 10 ratings, if average ratings are less than 3 stars, the mods still don't review it. That way, only the decent films would get reviews, and the community would sift through all the muck for the mods.
i volunteer to write a review for every single film that comes through bim's film directory
I volunteered for one month, I burned out fast. So have past reviewers.

This has been reiterated countless times: For every ten films you view, only 1 is worth your time, the rest are: poorly animated, poorly filmed, poorly edited, poorly written, etc. Now instead of 10, try viewing hundreds. You'll feel the enthusiasm drained out of you with each passing second of a shoddy film. At one point, we decided to just focus on writing reviews for worthwhile films, but we'd still have to sift through the muck.

The overhaul aims to crowd source the reviews and encourage regulars in the forum to review instead of just a small review panel.

Stay tuned.

With great responsibility comes great power.

Scratch that. Reverse it. Play it again. Thank you!

Really, most people aren't that picky/strict until things hit certain limits. I wouldn't be worried about people mis-understanding or disagreeing with how you rate your films. If they do disagree enough, they'll let you know. If you put out even just a little bit of effort to see things from a non-linear non-subjective point of view, you'll be fine.
The categories are broad enough that there's plenty of wiggle room, but just enough to warn those with standards of excess material they would be uncomfortable with watching.

Also, I don't think too many people actually visit the directory page to see the ratings.
I know I don't for most of our member's films. :shifty:

Well, I know when I'm rating my film I try not to rate it on what I think the film should be, but what I think other people would think. For e.g. When I added my latest film to the directory I didn't think the violence was bad at all but someone else might think it was a lot worse. I hope I made my shelf clear? I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would rather an unbiased option rate films then the people who made them.

Labeling all of the incoming films would require watching all of the incoming films, which is unfortunately not manageable for the staff at present. Ultimately we rely on directors to self-report the content in their films- or in the rare case that a film is submitted with improper labeling, site members reporting that to us so we can correct the submission. The current system has separate ratings for violence, language, and sexuality, so it seems fairly comprehensive... is there a specific reason you think the staff should be rating all of the submissions for objectionable content?

I know that the site will be under some change in the next few months, but I was wondering weather instead of having the staff wright reviews for brickfilms they just give them a rating. Something like G, PG, PG-13, And R ratings just with names that would better fit brickfilms, and have a link that you can click on the rating to go to a standard page that tells what the rating means. Just a thought.
