I absolutely agree on how much brickfilming is in its own niche. I feel like it's one of those things a lot of people actually know about though, like it's fairly well known by most everyone in my experience, but it's almost like they still don't realize it exists. Lots of people think it's cool or awesome and they're like "Hey, you make LEGO movies? That's awesome!" but then most people still don't recognize that it's not some little and childish hobby for lonely people.

Also, I think there's scores of people out there who "make LEGO movies" but don't have any kind of online personality. One, I think people just don't realize that there is places to go besides YouTube. They just upload there, don't get many views, and eventually get discouraged. I also think there's a lot of younger children (ehh...mostly 8-12 is what I'm thinking of here) that do brickfilm and love it but don't share online or do anything with what they've made. Personally, my mom didn't let me get a YouTube until two years ago, when I was 14. Of course, not many parents are like that but there is still a fair number that for one reason or another just don't do anything brickfilm-related online. I also feel like a large number of people that make 'LEGO movies' are the homeschooled type, perhaps more so than other types of filmmaking or hobbies, and many of those homeschoolers are a lot more conservative than brickfilmers who aren't homeschooled, thus having even less brickfilmers be active online.

Speaking of active...I haven't uploaded anything since August of 2013. I am so pathetic. It's a wonder anyone actually stays subscribed to me. Never fear, I am still working slowly on the Knights Kingdom film!

HoldingOurOwn, yup, I am indeed from Alaska.
I'm not north of Fairbanks though, I'm actually in Southeast AK. Many places up north have access to a road system of sorts that leads them into Canada. In SE it's pretty much all islands and a peninsula so while I'm not technically and island there's no way out of town on roads.
Honestly, it's a wonder that there are this many of us at all.
I agree completely to this.
I always thought brickfilming was a large, mass filled community, especially here on BiM. I would like to know the total of active members, and the total who still brickfilm. Just a suggestion, but mainly due to the fact that I think the community of brickfilming has died down a bit over the last, what, 2-3 years.

I don't think most brickfilmers realize how incredibly niche our hobby is. We're probably one of the most niche hobbies that exist. Think of it this way:

If you're a brickfilmer, you probably started brickfilming because you either liked LEGO, or liked filmmaking.

Only some people are LEGO fans -> only some LEGO fans like filmmaking -> only some LEGO fans who like filmmaking actually make films -> Only some LEGO fans who like filmmaking and who make films use stop-motion -> Only some LEGO fans who make films with stop-motion are into online communities.

We are niche community (film fans) within a niche community (LEGO film fans) within a niche community (LEGO stop-motion fans) within a niche community (LEGO and film websites).

Honestly, it's a wonder that there are this many of us at all.
As far as I can tell, the place with the highest density of brickfilmers per square mile is either California or Germany. I think it's strange how disconnected BiM is from the German brickfilm community - I mean, it's so popular there that they have an annual film festival where they show nothing but brickfilms, and it's rarely ever mentioned.
I always assumed that brickfilmers were around about the same spread evenly throughout most English-Speaking countries, but America just seemed like it had more, when really it just has a high population, an thus seems like it has more, when America is really just a very big place. To an East Coast person like me, California is like another country.

I would guess that living in a more populated area would make you closer to more brickfilmers.

Is it really a big thing in Germany? I had no idea. If it is, then I'm surprised that not many Germans ever come on here. Or perhaps they don't because they already have a big enough brickfilming website so they don't feel the need to connect to any English-speaking brickfilmers. The French still come here sometimes even though they have their own forum, and I'm really glad of that.
Maybe they're too busy running around giving rainbow mushrooms to people.

I would be interested to know exactly how the brickfilmers of the World are spread, however, that would probably be very difficult to find out, perhaps impossible, as many people try to keep exact locations a secret. I myself only tell people my country and time zone.

When I went to California I tried to host a brickfilmer gathering, and I got to meet filmyguy and we chatted for a while. It was cool. :)

Fine, I'll admit it.
The truth is...I am Iron Man.

Y'all people are lucky that you at least have road access to each other. Where I live in Alaska we ain't got none of those swanky roads connecting one another.
So far as I'm aware, there's one other member of the forum in Alaska but like I said...roads. I'm on a peninsula that may as well be an island since there's no roads out.
If any of you ever happen to take a cruise to Alaska you should totally let me know because you will come through my town if you're the cruisin' type.
