Look online for the fonts you need and try downloading/installing them. I've done it a time or two and that should work.
Don't know about the identical looking ones, but if the download works right it shouldn't matter.

If it doesn't work, try switching back to the old GIMP.

I've been meaning to finally create my own logo for some time now, and to this end I've been looking around for a suitable font to use. A while ago, I had found one I intended to use. However, I have since gotten a newer version of GIMP (version 2), and the really cool fonts I wanted to use (such as Matisse or Parchment) are no longer available.

Not only that, but many of the fonts still available look exactly the same for some reason. I think this might be because my computer doesn't recognise these fonts properly or something like that, since Webdings and Wingdings 1, 2, 3, and 4 all look exactly the same, and are clearly not in their original formats. Along with the endless variations on some fonts (Ariel, Ariel Bold, Ariel Italic, Ariel Bold Italic, ad infinitum...) this means I probably have about 10 unique fonts, most of which are the fairly standard and mundane ones (Times New Roman, Calibri, etc.).

So, long story short, is there any way I can get the fonts that I want back? Is it possible to somehow get fonts like Matisse from previous versions of GIMP?
