For a long time when I originally did brickfilming in 2010/11 I used a logitech quick cam pro 9000, This was a good camera and had a variety of manual features you could control...Unless you're using a mac, the manual features don't work on that for some reason! But I'd definitely suggest that if that's the route you want to take! Although I now use an Olympus E420 for animating (Just started again! :D) And I'd say that getting a proper camera could be worth a try, so long as you don't mind importing images from a compact flash card!
Antonio, I just bought a C920 on Amazon. Should arrive in the next week or so, once I try it out I could let you know my opinion. What I've learned about the pic quality though is that lighting is extremely important :)
It only cost me $550 for my T2i, a telephoto lens and Dragonframe.

Unless people plan on using something like the 7D or 60D, then yea it would cost a lot.

I don't know where you pulled those numbers from. You can control everything on your camera in Dragonframe from the shutter spped to the ISO settings. It's pretty nice.

But if I were to recommend a camera for a Brickfilmer it would be the QC9K, only thing I have against it is the fact that it sucks at low lighting. You will get a pretty good amount of film grain in your pictures.

Source: I own 2 QC9000's and a C910. (don't get the C910, to many problems when it came to animating)

As Larry said, lighting is important for good quality, but often what is neglected is losses during editing and compression. Using poor compression settings, constantly reediting a lossy file etc. can ruin quality of a video.

If you think your film quality is crap, take a few still shots and look at a .bmp or .png still frame directly.

Often you will find the image is really perfect, but your final movie is of poor quality.

I would suggest either the QC9000 or the C920. A DSLR with proper software is going to cost around $1000. Webcams are the perfect beginning level camera. They are cheap take decent photos and work with free stop motion software.

The weapon of choice for many years has been the logitech QC9000 which is excellent for brickfilming. You can pick these up cheap now.

The Logitech C920 is also very good and more modern. I have both of these and the C920 seems to give a sharper image, but the colours of the QC9000 appear a little more vivid. Its just personal preference really. Either one is a good buy and has all the manual control you want.

Dont bother with a DSLR for brickfilming, they are expensive, difficult to set up and don't work with the cheaper software. You also have to give up useful features like onion skinning unless you spend lots of money on software. even after all that, when you post your final movie on youtube, the pictures are no better as you are wasting all the super high resolution you have when you compress the file.

Logitech c920 is what I use. It takes 15 MP pics(software enhanced) and has tripod support. Of course, the remote for this camera is your capture software, so you wouldn't need to worry about that.

Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006JH8T3S/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1377096709&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165
