I have always used archive.org. It also is a great resource for original documents which is a great tool against revisionism. Another band whose entire discography is copyright-free is NEGATIVLAND. I use a sample from a Negativland song when Carleigh's tuning the radio in Holding Our Own: Episode 2.

I dunno if any of you have been to archive.org, but it is one of the best sources for free stuff to use in films.
All the music is either old enough to have entered the public domain, or the artist has intentionally released it into the public domain. This means that there is a myriad of various performances, suitable for many sorts of films. Some of my favorite collections:
Defiance, Ohio is this awesome folk punk band. Their entire discography is creative commons.
Russ Columbo is an awesome crooner from the 20s-30s. There is a whole lot of old jazz music here, including Midnight Crew (for those Homestuck fans lol)
556Folk Dances from around the world!
I'll leave the rest to you to explore. There are a lot of really good materials there so I encourage you to check it out. there are also public domain pictures and videos for use. I would say make sure you do have the permissions to use that stuff before using it though.
