Thanks ForlornCreature--I was watching a lot of ROTJ and the opening battle over Coruscant for a lil bit of inspiration.

The ships were all actually on pylons of monorail tracks wrapped in green paper to blend in with the rest of the green screen. All the movement was due to the camera and my freehand =/ I got ambitious with arcing shots but thought my hand would be steadier--I should focus on getting a smooth shot to begin with before attempting things more complicated. I'll take that to heart about using a wheeled platform--might just use the wheels from a set or two if worse comes to worst haha

There were a couple of shots I really like, and I could see what you were going for. However you primarily need to work on keeping the ships still, and using explosions that don't have a flat edge.

One thing you can try is to stick your ships on a stand coming off of a platform with wheels. Dragging the platform along should give a much smoother movement than holding them free hand, or whatever you were doing before. Also moving the camera on a wheeled platform gives a similar effect, I suspect that's what you did for a couple of shots.

That dolly shot was quite reminiscent of star wars, keep at it :-)

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. I am practicing more and more with chroma keying to get a better desired effect--and yes, the explosions were poorly executed =/. The scale issue, I can only solve with building a larger ship--we'll see how that goes. Must buy more LEGOs. And I'll just have to work on smoothly moving the camera for the consistency in ship movement. As for animations--I realize this wouldn't count as such but I'd like to blend it with stop motion scenes with mini fig actors.

Again, thank you and hopefully my next upload will be an improvement (with an actual bit of stop motion in it)!

Scale proportion is one thing, consistency is another. From what I can tell, the ships in some shots don't move consistently within the shot. One ship bounces around like the camera is bouncing, but the other ship isn't bouncing about. The explosions don't blend well, either. But it'd pass for 1980s Superman special effects.

It reminds me of when I first started animating. Poorly keyed out greenscreen, no "real" animation, visual effects downloaded off Detonationfilm, etc.

I like some of the ship models.

This is from my youtube channel. It was my first real use of green screen. There's some scale differences but hopefully the models don't come off as blatantly out of proportion to one another. I'd appreciate any comments and critiques you guys have!
