That's what I said about my beloved Moonrise Kingdom. But it's really late in the year to discuss this considering the oscars were like two months ago.

But now that this topic is still opened, I'm gonna ask: am I the only one who found Seth McFart-lame to be an AWFUL host?? He was crude, arrogant, and generally boring. Like asking that girl from Southern Wild if she was some old guy's girlfriend. Totally inappropriate and offensive behavior. I wish they chose the Muppets to do it instead.

Well, I'm not entirely disappointed with the results. Adele won Best Original Song, Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor in a Leading Role, Paperman won Best Animated Short. Sure, they could have been better, but look at this. The youngest person to be nominated for Best Actress. And Amour was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Picture; there's something.

Great. For the first time since 2010 (when The Hurt Locker won) the Oscars don't just pile one film with millions of awards - and I didn't watch it.

Its also the first time in ages where the winner of Best Director didn't win Best Picture - because I've always regarded Best Director as just a spoiler for the next and final award.

Then again, I'm not sure if the wide spread of awards is because this year was a mediocre year, a good year, or just a year where the Academy weren't sniffing glue.

As much as I loved The Hobbit, I don't think it has a chance for best visual effects, at least in 48 fps, they just weren't that good, it was pretty easy to tell what was fake and what backgrounds were green screened. Am I the only one excited that all three stop motion features of the year were nominated?! :DD I mean this is a community based around stop motion. I can't really pick between The Pirates and ParaNorman because their pretty much my two favorite movies. Continue on with your discussion of movies people actually care about, I'll just sit here in my college dorm room and watch stop motion films all day. :|

I didn't see most of these films, so I'm just going to root for The Hobbit and Les Miserables.
I agree, The Hobbit was a fabulous film and the special effects were great (Yeah, I loved the CGI)...
Unfortunately, I can't say much about the effects, because 3d and HFR don't really complement it very well, and I'm not sure how they were at all.
The 3D was pretty good, but I watched the movie in 24 frames per second.
