Weird Auto Exposure setting

So here's the deal, I have a Canon ZR200 video cam, and I put all the settings possible to manual. There is one problem though, I don't have a setting to keep the exposure manual. If you've seen my older posts, I've had a lot of flicker problems, and I think the exposure problem is what's causing it. I've heard people say that you have to put a lot of light on the set, and then turn the exposure setting down. I don't have an exposure setting, but I do have a setting called Auto exposure. This setting allows you to brighten or darken the image, which is what I need, but if I turn it on to do so, Auto exposure takes place, which is not what I want.

Is there any suggestions?
